Prospect House, a vital social resource for the Princeton University community, is undergoing renovations to allow it to continue to serve as an important gathering, meeting, and dining hub for students, faculty, staff, and guests. Building on the efforts put in place Spring 2022 to enhance the atmosphere of this historic space with a visual art installation that brings together voices from across the University community and directly represents the lived experience of our University community, this updated visual arts installation is expected to be unveiled in August 2024.

You can view the building rendering here: https://facilities.princeton.edu/projects/prospect-house-renovation

To that end, submissions of works of art are sought that will embrace one or more of the following broad themes:

  • Past meets present
  • Origins and legacies (tradition and innovation)
  • Belonging
  • Community
  • Welcome
  • Gathering

Application Requirements

Two- or three-dimensional works will be considered, although flat work in all media is preferred. Three-dimensional work must not require a vitrine. No outdoor sculpture will be considered.

All University students (both undergraduate and graduate), alumni, faculty, and current staff are warmly invited to submit works of art for consideration. Works of art submitted for inclusion in previous University projects such as the Art of Science projects are eligible. Works may be offered either as loans (for a preferred renewable loan period of two years) or as gifts. A selection committee, working with the University’s Campus Art Steering Committee, hopes to select artwork representative of the broad range of experience of individuals across the University community.

If your work is selected the University will need to take physical possession of all selected works of art in June 2024. Two-dimensional works should preferably come unframed so that framing can be done consistently.

Eligibility Criteria

Must be a Princeton University student, alumni, faculty, or current staff to apply.

The deadline for receipt of submissions is April 28, 2024. Jurying will take place during May 2024; selected artists will be notified no later than June 1, 2024.
