It is what is behind the surface of a piece of artwork that is the most fascinating.  Although the surface is the star of the show, the storytelling of the artists’ creativity is beneath the surface:  the layers of paint, textile, texture, text; the complex and chaotic thinking out loud of tangled threads and brush strokes. What if you shared it? What would it expose? How willing would you be to reveal it? Be brave.

Imagine your dreams, memories and aspirations. How do you disclose those parts of life in your work? What is exposed as you examine the recesses of your mind? “Beneath the Surface” could be an exploration of what is not yet revealed.

Gallery 114 invites you to share your  “hidden” layers- both in process and/or content.  What is clearly revealed  and what is implied ,assumed or guessed in your work??

At Gallery 114, you can “expect the unexpected” because we are artist owned, artist run and artists unleashed.  We encourage our members as well as jury participants to take risks and explore new and different creative efforts with underlying quality and integrity. We encourage emerging and established artists to apply.
