Remarque Print Workshop & Gallery invites printmakers and photographers from around the world to submit work for our exhibition, Sublime Synergies: Interactions of Light and Ink  to be held at Remarque Print Workshop & Gallery in Albuquerque, NM from June 7th – July 27th, 2024.

Sublime Synergies is a call for hand-printed photographic imagery using alternative processes, such as: photogravure, photopolymer intaglio, cyanotype, gum bichromate, carbon, salt, albumen, gummoil, etc; basically, any alternative to straight digital printing. We are looking for images that explore the boundaries between photography and printmaking and that involve some form of hand-work. 

In the 19th century, the idea of the sublime was used to describe images and places that evoked a response of awe and overwhelming sensation. It was used to try to define the aesthetic experience that goes beyond beauty to a liminal space that transcends the boundaries of the particular.  Our hope is to select images, working in both the photographic and print-making traditions, that will form a body of prints that capture some of the energy of the sublime, in whatever form it manifests; prints that incorporate elements of printmaking and of photography and that seek to create an alchemical merging of the two. We hope to showcase the emerging print world that increasingly discards concern for categorical process while making free use of techniques from all forms of print and image making. The gallery
Remarque Print Workshop, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is one of the first completely non-toxic printmaking facilities in the country. Our award-winning studio offers access to printmaking equipment and year-round classes in a great range of techniques.

Our 3000 + square foot facility is comprised of two workshop spaces with 6 Takach presses, a classroom, and two gallery spaces in which we feature work by artists from our workshop as well as selected artists from Mexico, Japan, Europe, New Zealand and other parts of the United States.

Entry deadline
Entries must be posted by midnight MDT (GMT-6) on April 21, 2024.

Artwork submissions

• Each artist should submit 3 to 5 images.
• Maximum Paper size: 16 x 20” or 20 x 16”

Presentation

All selected works will be archivally framed and displayed in the Remarque Gallery. We will accept framed pieces, but it is the artist’s responsibility to package the piece adequately for shipping and return shipping. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs, please provide a pre-paid shipping label for the return of your piece.

Entry fee

This fee covers administration, publicity and exhibition costs.

How to submit entries for jurying

Entries must be submitted via CAFE https://www.callforentry.org/ - all entries must be “For Sale.”

Commission on sales
Remarque will retain 50% of the retail price and the artist will receive 50% of the retail price.

Payment to the artist
Within thirty (30) days of the end of the exhibition, it shall be the responsibility of Remarque to make payment via check or PayPal.

Use rights
By submitting for jurying, artists whose submissions are chosen for the exhibition grant Remarque the right to use their images for the purpose of marketing the exhibition. Artists permit the use of their image(s) as stated without further contact or compensation. Artist’s recognition is provided with use.

Schedule

• Artists will be contacted via CAFE with results of jury by May 2, 2024
• Accepted Works: Must arrive at Remarque no later than May 20, 2024
• Accepted works can be shipped framed or unframed, signed with artist’s name, title, year and numbering. No substitutions for accepted artworks. If you wish to ship a framed piece contact us first so we can discuss the details of the framing.
• When you ship your piece, please send us an email with the tracking number so we know to be looking for it.

Artists are responsible for shipping and insurance costs to and from Remarque. International work should be shipped by postal service:  please allow 1-2 weeks for shipping. All international artists must write ‘Printed Matter – No Commercial Value’ on the package. All received work will be handled with maximum care and will be insured for wholesale value while on gallery premises. Please provide a pre-paid shipping label for the return of your piece.
