The Alaska Triennial is organized by the Anchorage Museum. The Triennial celebrates place through the lens of contemporary art with new works submitted by Alaska artists. Individual artists are encouraged to submit works in a variety of media, including performance, writing, and sound. The 2025 Alaska Triennial will be juried by Mary Bradshaw, Director of Visual Arts at the Yukon Arts Centre.

The deadline for entries is October 1, 2024 at 9:59pm Alaska Time.

Artists will be notified by November 15, 2024 regarding works accepted into the exhibition.

Works accepted into the Alaska Triennial must be delivered to the Anchorage Museum in December 2024 and January 2025. Detailed instructions will be provided by Anchorage Museum staff when artists are notified about acceptance into the exhibition.

Artist is responsible for inbound shipping/delivery expenses. The Museum covers return shipping expenses. Return of works will happen in the same method that works are delivered, unless other arrangements are agreed to in writing by the Museum (ie, works that are delivered in person by an artist or representative, shall be picked up in person).

All entries, including time-based media, must be ready for installation. Prior to jury review, artists submitting performance art will be contacted for a technical rider (a simple explanation of space, A/V, and other equipment necessary for your performance). For written work, if 1 page or less, writers may submit up to 3 works. For longer form pieces, please submit only one work. Limit 2,500 words. Final display format will be decided once submission period is complete, and Museum will communicate with artists about our plan at that time.

All notifications will be sent by email through CaFÉ. Please be advised that these messages may get filtered directly to junk folders instead of inboxes, so please be sure to check both locations.

Statement on ownership and cultural appropriation: the Anchorage Museum strives to respect and support the traditions of Alaska Native and all Indigenous peoples and global cultures. Triennial submissions must be original work created by the artist.

Please note: beginning in 2025, the Alaska Biennial will become a triennial, running every three years. The change in format will allow for longer exhibition runs and more considered programming and outreach. After two editions of unjuried biennials in 2020 and 2022 aimed at providing an inclusive survey of art across the state, the 2025 edition of the Alaska Triennial will be juried in response to feedback received from artists.

Application Requirements

Installation Ready
What does “installation ready” mean, regarding entries to this exhibition?

  • The work is complete and ready to install on the wall or on the floor. Work is not accepted if excessive assembly is required.
  • The work must arrive fully framed and ready to hang. The Museum reserves the right to assess and change hangers for safety and security of work as needed during installation. Framed works with glazing must use plexiglass/acrylic instead of true glass if larger than 16” x 20”.
