Collage/Assemblage

Online Exhibition June 21, 2024 - July 21, 2024

Collage, like film, is simultaneously a verb and a noun, an action as well as a result. Its history as a technical innovation and artistic tool begins in China and moves through Japan to medieval Europe, but it is in the 20th century avant-garde that collage emerges as a self-conscious response to modernity. In combining aspects of painting and sculpture, the surface produced by painting and physicality of the sculpted (or found) object, collage became the new grammar in the language of modern art. Today, college and assembly touches every aspect of our culture, from video montage to the construction of modern skyscrapers. Site:Brooklyn is calling for works of college or assemblage that continue this tradition of combination and exploration.

About the Juror: Regine Basha has over 20 years of curatorial and consulting experience with exhibitions, special commissions and publicly-sited projects in the US and internationally as found in Bashaprojects.com. From 2016 - 2019 she was Director of Residencies at Pioneer Works. She was also Adjunct Professor at Columbia University MFA Sound dept from 2016-2021. She sits on the Advisory Board of Denniston Hill Residency and SETI Residency.

About the Gallery: Site:Brooklyn Gallery is dedicated to exhibiting the current practice of contemporary artists. We are taking Site:Brooklyn online with a new series of interactive exhibitions. Our goal remains the same, to connect artists with an expert and diverse set of jurors through the open call format. Our new program focuses on online open call exhibitions, selected by a cast of new jurors, solo artist features, and spotlights.

Eligibility:
This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all media. This exhibition is open to all artists 18 years of age or older.

Directions For Online Submission: 

Presentation: Once accepted, artists will be required to upload high-res photo files of their work. 

Sales/Commissions:
All artwork must be priced for sale.
Artwork must be available for sale during the exhibition and cannot be withdrawn before the end of the exhibit.
Artists will retain a 60% commission on all exhibition sales. The price represented on the artist entry form will be the sale price.

Application Requirements

Submissions and fees:
Only original works may be submitted. The fee is $26.00 for three (3) images, $10 for each additional image. If adding additional images please do so prior to check out.
All entries must be registered/received by May 20, 2024 11:59 PM MT
All entry fees are non-refundable.
