CaFÉ’s parent organization, the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF), turns 50 in 2024! To celebrate, we invite artists in our region to submit their art for an online exhibition, 50 Years, 50 Artists: A Celebration of the West. 

Theme: 

In the spirit of this 50-year milestone, we seek artwork that explores the concept of time, whether in the past, present, or future. We invite you to interpret this concept however you choose—exploring memory, history, evolution, etc. We want to see your perspective on time reflected in your artwork. 

Exhibition:

50 pieces of art will be selected for display in an online exhibition on the CaFÉ website. Each piece will also be featured with a dedicated post on its social media pages (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter/X) throughout the year. Additional works may also be used as rotating images on the CaFÉ and/or WESTAF websites.

Entry to this call is free.

Prizes:

WESTAF is pleased to award the following cash prizes to three highest-scored artists: 

• First Place: $2,000
• Second Place: $1,000
• Third Place: $500

An additional 10 artists will each be awarded a $50 cash prize.

The Jury Process:

Submitted artwork will be juried by a panel made up of WESTAF staff and board of trustee members. Approximately 2-3 rounds of asynchronous scoring will be conducted to identify selections and award winners.

Application Requirements

• Submit 1-2 artworks for consideration.
  • You may submit images, audio, or video files.
  • All artwork samples must be submitted in one application. You will not be able to add additional artwork samples after submitting.
  • We highly encourage audio or video submissions! We accept YouTube or Vimeo links for video and any online streaming platform for audio.
• A short artist statement describing your art’s connection to the theme.
  • The statement will be visible to jurors and displayed in the online exhibition if selected.
• Artist headshot.
  • The headshot will be visible to jurors and displayed in the online exhibition if selected. Artists may submit any form of photo that represents themselves.
  • Your headshot must be a jpg file no larger than 2MB.

Eligibility Criteria

This call is limited to artists who reside within the WESTAF region, which includes Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Guam, Hawai’i, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Artworks in any medium, 2D or 3D, are eligible for entry. Artwork must be entirely of the artist’s own creation and must not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of any third party. At this time, we do not allow AI-generated or assisted artwork. Submissions found to violate these conditions may be subject to disqualification or removal from consideration.

CaFÉ™ is managed by the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF), dedicated to serving artists and arts organizations in the Western region.
