Announcing the call for entry to the annual Radford Art Show! This regional exhibition hosted by Radford University Art Museum highlights the talent of artists living in the New River Valley area of Virginia. This exhibit is in collaboration with the City of Radford’s celebrated Mary Draper Ingles Festival, that features entertainment, art and history of the region. This year’s exhibition is juried by award winning artist and gallery owner, Pippi Miller (Blacksburg, VA). The show features cash prizes and awards in categories for 2D and 3D artwork, including a $500 prize for Best in Show.  All artists in Western and West Central Virginia age 18 and older are encouraged to apply.

 

Radford University’s Art Department is deeply committed to community engagement, as evidenced by our museum’s initiatives to embellish our scenic campus with captivating sculptures and grace our affiliated hotel with sophisticated artwork spanning various mediums. Additionally, the Radford University Art Museum hosts an array of exhibitions throughout the year, showcasing diverse artistic expressions. A highlight in our calendar is the annual 2024 Radford Art Show, attracting talented artists from across the region and shining a spotlight on the dynamic artistic community thriving in the New River Valley. This year, we are excited that the exhibition will coincide with the Mary Draper Ingles Festival, creating a unique opportunity to celebrate local art amidst the festivities. In collaboration with the Highlander Hotel : Bee & Butter, Radford City and the Mary Draper Ingles Festival, Radford University’s Art Museum aims to bring attention to the rich tapestry of the local art scene, inviting visitors to explore and appreci­ate the abundance of creative talent waiting to be discovered.

Notification of Accepted Entries: May 21

Drop off accepted artworks (in person only – no shipping): July 11-13

Open to the public: Tuesday 23 July – Friday 9 August, 2024

Opening Reception: Friday 26 July at 5 pm

Artwork Pickup (in person only – no shipping): August 10-13

Application Requirements

  • Artists may submit up to three artworks to be considered.
  • The artwork must be the original creation of the artist.
  • Only high quality images and application materials will be considered.

 

Eligibility Criteria

THIS COMPETITION IS OPEN TO ANY ARTIST AGES 18 AND UP WHO LIVE IN WESTERN AND WEST CENTRAL VIRGINIA:

Alleghany County, Bedford, Bedford County, Bland County, Botetourt County, Bristol, Buchanan County, Buena Vista, Carroll County, Covington, Craig County, Dickenson County, Floyd County, Franklin County, Galax, Giles County, Grayson County, Henry County, Lee County, Lexington, Martinsville, Montgomery County, Norton, Patrick County, Pulaski County, Radford, Roanoke, Roanoke County, Rockbridge County, Russell County, Salem, Scott County, Smyth County, Tazewell County, Washington County, Wise County, Wythe County.

ENTRY OPEN TO ALL MEDIUMS. 

 

ENTRY RULES

•Works that hang are limited to 84 inches in height, 48 inches in width and 45 lbs in weight. 3D pieces cannot weigh more than 75 lbs.

•The artwork must have been created within the last 18 months.

•All 2D works must be framed or gallery ready. Wire is required and must be properly and securely attached to the frame and cannot be attached with tape or staples. Entrants should be aware that most jurors take presentation into account when judging.

•Each work must have an identifying label securely attached to the back or bottom. Stones and metals in jewelry pieces must be identified.

• Accepted works must remain on display for the entire duration of the exhibition.

•The organizers are not responsible for works that are not picked up during the pick-up dates.

•Works that do not comply with these regulations will be disqualified.
