The Angelico Catholic Arts Guild is an outreach of The Angelico Project specifically to Artists. The Guild’s mission is
- to enrich the faith and work of artists;
- to nurture a taste for Goodness, a longing for Truth, and a love of Beauty;
- to deepen the artist’s relationship with the Creator;
- to build networks of artists in friendships, collaborations, and mentorships.
Call for Artists/About the Exhibit: An area of joy and struggle for the artist is the desire to explore invisible realities through visual expression. Mirroring the Creator, the artist is able to convey the Goodness of creation and Truth within reality through Beauty of form. In offering an opportunity to contemplate the True, Good and Beautiful through their work, the artist can open the heart of the viewer to an encounter with our loving God.
The Goal of this exhibit is to showcase work by artists of the greater Cincinnati Region who strive to convey a sense of the True, Good and Beautiful. Submitted artwork does not need to be overtly religious but should witness to the dignity of the human person, the reality of the spiritual life, and demonstrate mastery of the chosen medium.
Eligibility: This exhibition is open to any artist (both professional and amateur) over the age of 18 in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region. Works that engage with subjects of Catholic spirituality and Sacred Art are welcome (and encouraged). Artists need not be Catholic to take part in the exhibit. All entries must be original and submitted by the artist. Limit three entries per artist. Work may be for sale or not-for-sale (NFS).
Juror: Ann Schmalstieg Barrett is a Pittsburgh based artist, inspired by Catholic theology and devotion. After earning her BA in Art History and Studio Arts from the University of Pittsburgh (PA) and her MFA in Painting from the Laguna College of Art and Design (CA), she perused classical art training through Grand Central Atelier and Aristides Atelier. In addition to completing commissioned work, she currently teaches studio and art history classes at Franciscan University, as well as sacred art painting workshops in various locations. Painting in oil and encaustic, Ann creates art to support prayer in public and private settings.
