Join us as we take A Foot Forward: Art Knows No Boundaries into a future where inclusivity thrives and art becomes a catalyst for positive change. In this exhibition, our aim is to highlight the diverse talents of artists from Coronado, San Diego County and Tijuana, while also nurturing meaningful connections and fostering understanding across demographic boundaries.

By providing a platform for artists of all backgrounds to collaborate and share their stories, A Foot Forward aims to amplify diverse voices that may not always receive prominence in traditional art spaces. Through the universal language of art, we invite viewers to engage with narratives that challenge stereotypes, promote inclusivity, foster empathy and solidarity.

As part of the programming for World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024, A Foot Forward: Art Knows No Boundaries will feature diverse artwork from 100 local and international artists, highlighting the intersection of design, innovation, and cultural exchange. The group show will be on view September 29, 2024 through January 31, 2025 at the C3 Gallery in the Coronado Community Center.

We invite artists to apply for participation in the exhibition by submitting three or four images of their artwork, offering insight into their body of work and artistic style. Upon selection, artists will be tasked with producing their interpretation of the show's theme, A Foot Forward, on a 12 x 12 inch canvas. Artwork can be created using any medium, including painting, drawing, photography, digital art, or mixed media.

Selected artists will interpret this theme of A Foot Forward with an opportunity to explore new ideas, push boundaries, and make a statement about progress and advancement. Please note that each artwork should not be framed and will be hung using pins. There will be a limited number of spaces for heavier pieces which conform to 12 x 12 inch requirement.

Eligibility: Open to all 18+ artists residing in San Diego County and the Tijuana region.

  • Entry Fee: $15 non-refundable application fee
  • Submission Guidelines: Visit Café
  • Deadline for Submissions: July 31, 2024

The last day to submit your application will be July 1, 2024. All applicants will find out on or before July 3, 2024, if they have been accepted into the exhibition. All completed artwork must be delivered to the Coronado City Hall by September 20.

Coronado’s series of events titled The 4th Wave, part World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024, A Foot Forward contributes to showcasing our region as a global hub for design, innovation, arts, and culture. Through this exhibition, we contribute to fostering lasting economic, social, cultural, civic, and environmental impact, demonstrating the transformative potential of creative expression in shaping our collective future. The opening reception on August 10, 2024 will be a celebration of art, regional food and drink.

Join us in celebrating the transformative potential of art as we take a collective step forward towards a more inclusive and equitable future.
