Series and Repetition

Online Exhibition August 7, 2024 - September 7, 2024

Series and Repetition are distinct yet related terms. Repetition is the reproduction of an object, shape, sound, theme, or anything else throughout a work; series, or seriality, is the recurring or repeating combination of these elements under a set or rules. What they share is a focus on the elaboration of repeated elements, which has given rise to some of the most momentous shifts in art history: the classical arabesque and its calligraphic development in the arts of the Islamic world; serial photography and the development of the moving image; minimalist and pop art constructions based on the techniques of mass production. The richness and multidimensional use of series and repetition have given artists the ability to use order and structure while maintaining freedom and the ability to experiment. Site:Brookyln is calling for works that contribute to this expansive and complex history.

About the Juror: Yulia Topchiy is an Art Consultant & Curator. Topchiy, a Russian-born New Yorker, is deeply passionate about the interconnected worlds of art, curation, and technology. Her professional journey includes significant roles at Phillips, Artsy, and Masterworks, ultimately leading her to oversee partnerships at Seminal, a platform devoted to safeguarding and monetizing artists' intellectual property. As a former co-founder of Assembly Room, a groundbreaking space for independent women curators, Yulia is a visionary curator and advocate for artists. Dedicated to creating innovative exhibition spaces and empowering emerging talent through strategic guidance and collaboration, she shapes the contemporary art landscape. With extensive experience, including collaborations with institutions such as Spring/Break, NADA, and Ford Foundation, coupled with a commitment to equality and transparency, Yulia's work at the intersection of art, technology, and curation leaves a lasting impact.

About the Gallery: Site:Brooklyn Gallery is dedicated to exhibiting the current practice of contemporary artists. We are taking Site:Brooklyn online with a new series of interactive exhibitions. Our goal remains the same, to connect artists with an expert and diverse set of jurors through the open call format. Our new program focuses on online open call exhibitions, selected by a cast of new jurors, solo artist features, and spotlights.
