TITLE: "Unfinished Democracy: Artistic Reflections"
"Unfinished Democracy" delves into the intersection of art and politics, illuminating the evolving narrative of democracy in the United States. Through a diverse range of artistic expressions, this exhibition invites viewers to contemplate the unfinished nature of democracy and the role of active civic engagement in shaping a more inclusive and just society. In the spirit of civic duty, we will close this exhibition with an event on election night and guests will be asked to show that they voted to attend.
Below are a couple of themes and artistic directions to choose from. We also welcome your perspective as well.
- Historical Perspectives, highlighting the youth of the United States in comparison to older democracies around the world; reflecting on the nation's ongoing journey towards a more perfect union, or the perception of a perfect goal. By juxtaposing American democracy with the rich and long history of civilizations across the globe, the art can prompt and provoke ideas around this ongoing experiment in governance.
- Civic responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of active participation in the political process and encourage viewers to embrace and activate their role as agents of change. By showcasing artworks that celebrate activism, protest, and community organizing, the exhibition underscores the power of collective action in advancing democratic ideals and effecting meaningful societal transformation.
"Ultimately I hope that "Unfinished Democracy: Artistic Reflections" serves as a call to action, urging viewers to engage critically with the challenges facing contemporary democracy and to harness the transformative potential of art in shaping a more equitable future." Molly Demeulenaere, Executive Director
