We are thrilled to be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Excellence In Fibers. The call for entries is open August 1 through September 6, 2024, and we are excited to see what you have in store for us. Artists are invited to enter innovative 2D and 3D artwork of original design that stretches the boundaries of fiber and textile techniques. The artwork must include a fiber component or textile technique and be completed after January 1, 2020. A list of accepted media and techniques are on the Home page of the Fiber Art Now website, fiberartnow.net

This juried exhibition will appear in the winter issue of Fiber Art Now, to be released in early January 2025. Artworks juried into the exhibition will be eligible for the on-site exhibition at Schack Art Center in Everett, Washington, January 15, 2026 through February 14, 2026. schack.org

Entries are submitted using the CAFE Call for Entry Application Management. CAFÉ is free. You can open a CAFÉ account here, callforentry.org.

Excellence In Fibers X will be juried by the Fiber Art Now creative team. We are fortunate that our Fiber Art Now creative team all have university degrees in the visual and cultural arts. These accomplished artists are the jurors:

  • Lori Butanis: Fiber Art Now creative director, graphic artist, art director
  • Barbara Delaney: Fiber Art Now editor, writer, and former managing editor of Cloth Paper Scissors magazine
  • Beth Smith: Fiber Art Now managing editor, exhibitions director, and Visions Art Museum: Contemporary Quilts + Textiles founding executive director emerita
  • Cami Smith: Fiber Art Now media manager and community engagement.

Notification of INVITED or NOT INVITED will appear in your CAFE account after the jurying has been completed, on or before September 30, 2024. You will receive a notification from CAFE with acceptance or regrets. Multiple submissions may receive two different email notifications. Email notifications will list each artwork as Invited or Not Invited. Please check your SPAM after September 30, 2024 if you have not received an email notification.

Application Requirements

Entry fee: $40 for up to three entries. Fiber Art Now subscribers: $28 with the discount code EIF2024. Use the discount code at check out. Entries close at midnight Mountain Time Zone, USA. CAFE does not let you go back into your application to make changes or corrections. Review your entry before checking out.

Artists may submit up to three individual works of art. We want to suggest the best way to photograph your work so they will be presented to their best advantage: Enter only full images, NO detail images. Detail images will not be accepted or considered by the jurors. Poor photography will result in poor juror scores. Photograph your artwork in natural light on or in front of a neutral wall, gray or white works well. Images must reflect the work with a straight-on view.

Images must be 5MB or less. There are no dimension restrictions.

For each entry, list the information separately in each category:  Materials, Techniques, Dimensions, Year completed, Retail value if the work is available for sale (otherwise list NFS), Photo credit per piece, and an Artist statement per piece. List dimensions as Height x Width x Depth in inches. If you are entering more than one piece, list all the pieces in the same category section, starting with the title of the piece. The information entered into the application form is the information that will be used in all print and digital mentions and on social media. Be succinct and concise with your artist statements. Artist statements must be 100 words or less for each entry. The Fiber Art Now team will shorten and edit any statement that is more than 100 words.

The CaFE application system will time you out after 30 minutes and you will lose your information unless you save each page as you go.

TIP: set a timer so you won't be timed out. You will need to re-enter after 30 minutes.

Juried selections will include only one artwork per artist. Prizes will be awarded for First prize $500, Second prize $400, Third prize $300, and Honorable Mention $100.

Eligibility Criteria

International subscribers of Fiber Art Now are eligible to enter Excellence In Fibers X. International nonsubscribers are also eligible to enter. A discounted entry fee is available to Fiber Art Now subscribers to use at check out.
