A juried exhibit dedicated to the presentation of functional ceramics, focusing on the fine art of dining, to include serving vessels, place settings, platters and dinner table décor. Proceeds from the sale of work, and associated events that will showcase the work, will benefit the Art Students League of Denver and its ceramics program.
Art Students League of Denver
Is an inclusive and inspiring art community where members of all abilities are guided by professional artists to reach their highest potential. Modeled on the famous Art Students League of New York, the Art Students League of Denver first opened its doors in 1987 with a handful of recognized artists teaching over one hundred students its first year. Today, located in the historic Sherman School in the West Washington Park area at 200 Grant Street, ASLD engages over 1,000 students a month with over 100 noted artists who teach diverse fine art classes throughout the year, including a ceramics program now in its 17th year. A membership based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, ASLD is supported by private donations, tuition, foundation grants and the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). Juror Artist Statement
My work is an exploration of my Korean heritage, blended with pop-culture references coupled with architectural studies of Youngstown, Ohio. I fire my forms in heavily reduced soda-atmospheres. I am fixated on the jar-form, always searching for subtle changes that are celebrated with complex patterns/perforations, juicy celadon glazes, and washed out carbon-trapped areas.
Submission Requirements
- Enter up to 3 digital images and 3 detail shots of functional pieces that could be included at a dinner table, i.e. place settings, serving vessels and platters, functional sets, or dinner table décor (vases, candle holders, etc.). Please note that all images submitted may be used for publicity purposes, provided that the image is high resolution.
- Work submitted must be innovative and original in design and must be a personal expression of the artist’s intent.
- Work submitted through the application process must be the actual work that will be displayed during the exhibit. The juror will select work on this basis. No more than two place settings are accepted as part of one of the submissions. When submitting images of place settings, you may submit a photo of one of the sets, if representational of both settings. (Please contact Griffin Callahan for clarification).
- Works must be made majorly out of ceramic materials (roughly 75%, at the discretion of ASLD).
- Work submitted for review must have been completed by the artist within the past three (3) years and not shown previously at delecTABLE.
- Size restrictions: each piece or set may not exceed 30 inches in any dimension or 20 pounds in weight.
- Accepted work which displays poor craftsmanship (including glaze flaws and cracks) or does not represent the pieces submitted as digital entries will be withdrawn from the exhibit.
- All ceramic work entered must be for sale. The artist receives 60% of the sale price.
- Sale proceeds will be paid to the artist within 30 days of the end of the exhibition.
- Designated awards for select artworks will be announced at Artist Reception and distributed to recipients within 30 days of the end of the exhibition.
Entry Fee
There is a nonrefundable entry fee of $35. You may submit up to 3 pieces for consideration, which may include one full and one detail image of each piece of artwork.
Payment is by credit/debit card through CAFÉ.
Freight and Insurance
The artist is responsible for freight and insurance on the work to and from Art Students League of Denver. ASLD is responsible for insurance during the exhibition. When you ship your piece(s) for the exhibit, you must include a prepaid UPS or FedEx return shipping label in the box with your work. If no return shipping label is enclosed, we will hold your work and ship once we receive the prepaid shipping label. Pieces not sold during the exhibit will be returned in their original packaging. Details regarding packaging requirements will be provided with the acceptance letter. Local artists may arrange to hand-deliver and pick up accepted work.
Marketing
ASLD will market the exhibit and related events through the ASLD website, social media, event postcards, and local media. This exhibit and the associated delecTABLE fundraising events will feature the work of 50-70 U.S. artists.
Sales and Insurance
All work must be available for sale. ASLD retains 40% commission of the sales price. Insurance will be set at 60% of sale value. ASLD will not be responsible for loss or damage to work in transit to or from ASLD. All accepted work that is not sold during the exhibit must either be picked up or will be shipped back to the artist within 30 days of the exhibit. If artwork is to be picked up rather than shipped, ASLD will not be responsible for loss, theft or damaged work after 14 days of the last day of the exhibit.
