Call Description

Situated amidst Indigenous lands within the present tribal boundaries of the Nichiłtana, Ninilchik Village Tribe, Bunnell Street Arts Center's mission is to spark artistic inquiry, innovation and equity to strengthen the physical, social and economic fabric of Alaska. A community tradition since 1991, Bunnell’s flagship Visual Arts Exhibits program promotes education and community engagement, nurtures and promotes Alaska’s artists, and elevates artistic innovation and excellence.

Applications to the Visual Arts Exhibits program are open to Alaska artists working in any media. This call is for 2026 - 2027 exhibits. Applications are due October 31st. Formats may include solo, group and interdisciplinary shows. Work need not be for sale.

There is a $25 application fee. Needs-based waivers are available. Please email adele@bunnellarts.org to request a discount or waiver of application fees.)

Bunnell seeks exhibitions that value innovation, excellence of craftsmanship, community engagement, relationship-building and fiscal sustainability, but not necessarily all of these qualities at once. The strongest applications show a clear and unified body of work. The artist’s work and intentions are clearly represented and described. The exhibit proposal is clear and specific and resonates with Bunnell's mission and values.

Exhibiting artists are selected by an advisory committee led by Bunnell's Artistic Director and composed of artists, community members, and Bunnell staff and board. Artists are notified by December 31st each year.

Exhibits run for one month and open on "First Friday" with a public reception and artist talk. Exhibiting artists are paid a minimum $150 honorarium. Shows and artist talks are shared online through Bunnell's website, online store, and social media platforms.

If artwork is for sale, work is sold at a 60% artist / 40% Bunnell split and paid by the 15th of the month following the sale.

See Exhibition FAQs/Artist Resources for additional support.
