Compartmentalization is a skill to create mental and emotional boundaries between actions and feelings, thoughts and decisions, personal views, and societal pressures.

Mental and physical boundaries may be seen as sharing (compartir, Spanish) while separating, two opposing perspectives. How do you express this tension/balance in a work of art? This show explores how we arrange time, space, energy, pleasure, and pain, expressing that in creative work. We invite artists to reflect on the particular ways they navigate work as artists and as women.

Venue: The Lakewood Cultural Center in Lakewood, Colorado is the artistic hub of the community.  Located at 470 S. Allison Pkwy., it features a 320-seat theater, art galleries, fine art and dance studios, meeting and event spaces, and a full calendar of fine and performing art classes and camps, performances, and special events.

Juror:  Laine Godsey, Lakewood Cultural Center Director of Arts and Education Programs. Laine oversees programs and events in Lakewood's various venues. She is a conceptual artist, an experienced juror, and an enthusiastic host for this exhibit. She has more than 15 years of experience in arts leadership, from community arts programming to curatorial and gallery direction. Under her direction, the City’s exhibition curation features inclusive, well-reviewed shows like Accentuate the Aggregate, Corporeal, Dimensions Variable, and We the People of the Land. She also led the LandMark project for the City, an art project that presented 10 artists’ environmental artwork in public park spaces throughout Lakewood. Prior to Lakewood, she served as the Arts and Community Engagement Coordinator at the Center for Creative Works in Philadelphia where she built collaborative arts programs with the Mutter Museum and Haverford College. Laine Godsey previously served as Co-Director for FJORD Gallery and was an adjunct professor at Lincoln University.
