The awards will be:

1st prize: $4000.00, Solo Exhibit in 2026, and paid workshop opportunity 2026.

2nd prize: $1500.00

3rd prize: $1000.00

2 merit awards: $250.00 each

Our Juror:

Rebecca Harvey, (Executive Director of The Archie Bray) received her MFA in Ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and her BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Her work is both process and project based, and is strongly responsive to both the history of decorate objects and sense of place. She has received international recognition for her artistic practice, including residencies in Dresden, Germany; Uppsala, Sweden; Jingdezhen, China; and Olafsfjordur, Iceland. Articles featuring her work have appeared is Studio Potter and American Craft. After a long stint as a professor at Ohio State University, Rebecca spent a year in London at Head of Programme, Applied Arts, Royal College of Art.

Sunshine Cobb, (Resident Coordinator at The Bray) As a studio artist living in Helena ,MT she specializes in handmade functional pottery. She frequently travels (online these days) the country as an invited lecturing and demonstrating artist. She is considered an important contemporary functional potter, hailed in both academic and commercial circles, and is consistently featured in art exhibitions throughout the country. With a strong social media following and online media presence, she represents an innovator in online business models in the ever-changing ceramics field and a leading advocate for functional art in modern living. She has also authored two books “Mastering Hand Building” and “ A Beginners Guide to Hand Building” by Voyager Press.

Ceramics Take Over Wheeling

We invite you to visit Wheeling, WV on February 20-23 for 4 days and 3 nights of amazing ceramic events! Attend workshops, sit in on a talk, explore the city with 8 art openings and end your trip with a Pottery Throwdown.   • Juror’s Notification emailed the week of: December 16, 2024
  • Opening Reception: February 22, 2025 (6:30-8:30pm)
  • Hand delivered drop off accepted works dates: January 25 - February 4, 2025
  • Shipped works accepted January 6– 31 (Shipping is at the cost of the artist; return shipping label must be included, Ship to: Stifel Fine Arts Center | Oglebay Institute, Earth & Fire Exhibit, 1330 National Road, Wheeling WV 26003)
  • Pick up dates after the close of the exhibit: April 4 - 12 (unsold work that was originally shipped, will be shipped back to the artist at this time)

  • All works must be made of clay and must be the original work of the artist. 
  • A nonrefundable $35 entry fee is required at the time of application.

Artists may submit up to 2 works or 2 applications. You can submit up to 3 views of each piece per application. If submitting 2 works, you will need to create a 2nd application. Use coupon code (EF2025) to avoid being double charge for 2nd application. You must submit high-resolution images (300 dpi) for the jury process. The Stifel Fine Arts Center will use submitted images of accepted works for concurrent online exhibit, documentation, the exhibit catalog, and promotional materials for this exhibit. 

Please no shipping peanuts! Shipping materials will be kept for returning work. Only boxes, crates and bins with proper labels including the artist’s contact information and the name of the piece will be kept for repackaging of hand delivered works. Ship accepted works to: Stifel Fine Arts Center | Oglebay Institute, Earth & Fire Exhibit, 1330 National Road, Wheeling WV 26003) Shipped works will be returned to the artist at the artist‘s expense. A return shipping label must be included when originally shipped for the exhibit. We strongly encourage you to insure shipping your work both ways. Stifel Fine Arts Center is only responsible for damage to work while it is here on our property not while in transit.

• Works left at Stifel Fine Arts Center more than 30 days past the Pick-up Dates (April 4-12) become the property of Stifel Fine Arts Center and will not be stored.
