Live Painting Event

Selected artists will participate in a live painting event on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. 

Artists must create original work that adheres to a theme of Life Cycles. Artwork illustrating the life cycles of plants and animals, emphasizing growth, transformation, and renewal.

Downtown Boulder staff and volunteers will be available to help refill water and watch your painting station for quick breaks. Lunch will be provided - details to be shared upon selection. 

Evento De Pintura En Vivo

Los artistas seleccionados participarán en un evento de pintura en vivo el sábado 28 de septiembre de 2024, de 9:00 am a 7:00 pm.

Los artistas deben crear obras originales que se ajusten al tema de Ciclos de Vida. Las obras deben ilustrar los ciclos de vida de plantas y animales, enfatizando el crecimiento, la transformación y la renovación.

El personal y los voluntarios de Downtown Boulder estarán disponibles para ayudar a rellenar agua y vigilar tu estación de pintura durante los descansos breves. Se proporcionará el almuerzo; los detalles se compartirán al momento de la selección.

Your Canvas

Selected artists will paint two (2) adirondack-style wooden chairs (each 39 in H x 34 in D x 32 in W). Chairs will be primed and ready to paint upon arrival. 

Artists will be expected to provide all necessary materials and equipment for painting the chairs, including drop cloths to cover the ground and protect city infrastructure from paint. 

Chairs will be sealed by Downtown Boulder after the September 28th event to withstand the elements and secured in their locations. 

Artists may not move the chairs from their locations to complete the painting process and both chairs must be painted by 7:00 pm on Saturday, September 28th. 

Tu Lienzo

Los artistas seleccionados pintarán dos (2) sillas de madera estilo Adirondack (cada una de 39 pulgadas de alto x 34 pulgadas de profundidad x 32 pulgadas de ancho). Las sillas estarán preparadas y listas para pintar a su llegada.

Se espera que los artistas proporcionen todos los materiales y equipos necesarios para pintar las sillas, incluidos los manteles protectores para cubrir el suelo y proteger la infraestructura urbana de la pintura.

Chair Locations

Each artist will be assigned a pair of chairs located at one of five (5) pre-selected locations along the East End of Pearl Street in Boulder, CO. The location to which each artist is assigned is at the discretion of Downtown Boulder. Artists will be notified of their assigned location upon selection.

Acceptance

All artwork is juried by the images submitted with your application. A Downtown Boulder and City of Boulder jury, and their sole discretion, will select participating artists based on quality of work, originality, creativity, and the answers to the required questions on the application. Notifications of selection will be sent by email the week of September 9, 2024.

Toda la obra se evalúa mediante las imágenes enviadas con tu solicitud. Un jurado de Downtown Boulder y de la Ciudad de Boulder, a su exclusiva discreción, seleccionará a los artistas participantes en base a la calidad del trabajo, originalidad, creatividad y las respuestas a las preguntas requeridas en la solicitud. Digital Images for the Jury

Please submit 3 electronic images minimum, 5 maximum of your current artwork for the jury to review in concert with the other elements of your application.

Compensation

Each selected artist will be paid an $800 stipend via check. Artists will be required to submit a W9 to Downtown Boulder prior to September 28th. Downtown Boulder will issue participating artists a 1099 for the 2024 tax season in the first quarter of 2025.

Awards & Artist Exposure

Chair artwork will be displayed for a calendar year, at which point the City of Boulder may decide to switch up the theme and have a new set of artists repaint the chairs. A QR code that links to the artist’s professional website/Instagram/etc. will be affixed on/near the pair of chairs so that the public can learn more about the artist and their work. 

Downtown Boulder will run and manage a public vote process during fall 2024 where members of the public can submit a vote for which artist best exemplified the theme of Life Cycles with their artwork. First, second, and third place artists as determined by the public vote will be eligible for cash prizes. Winning artists will be notified and given the prize money via check by the end of the 2024 calendar year. 

Downtown Boulder will run marketing for the live painting event and public voting session. Artists can request marketing materials to share on their own social media accounts and with their followers. Artists are also welcome and encouraged to share information on this project in their own creative ways.

Las obras en las sillas se exhibirán durante un año calendario, tras lo cual la Ciudad de Boulder podrá decidir cambiar el tema y hacer que un nuevo grupo de artistas repinte las sillas. Se colocará un código QR que enlace al sitio web profesional/Instagram/etc. del artista en/ cerca del par de sillas para que el público pueda conocer más sobre el artista y su obra.

Downtown Boulder llevará a cabo y gestionará un proceso de votación pública durante el otoño de 2024, en el que los miembros del público podrán votar por el artista que mejor haya ejemplificado el tema de Ciclos de Vida con su obra. Los artistas que ocupen el primer, segundo y tercer lugar, según la votación pública, serán elegibles para premios en efectivo. Los artistas ganadores serán notificados y recibirán el dinero del premio mediante un cheque antes de finalizar el año calendario 2024.

Downtown Boulder gestionará la promoción del evento de pintura en vivo y la sesión de votación pública. Los artistas pueden solicitar materiales de marketing para compartir en sus propias cuentas de redes sociales y con sus seguidores. Además, se anima a los artistas a compartir información sobre este proyecto de manera creativa.

Application Requirements

Please complete the required questions and upload at least three (3) digital images of your current artwork to be considered. 

There is no application fee! The application deadline is September 8, 2024 at 11:59 pm MST.

Eligibility Criteria

Artists should be Colorado residents and able to transport themselves to Boulder, Colorado for the live painting event on September 28, 2024. 

Artists must be comfortable painting outside in the elements and come prepared to do so. See Rules and Terms for more information. 

Artists must be able to provide their own supplies and materials to complete the requested job within the required timeframe. 

Los artistas deben ser residentes de Colorado y estar en condiciones de transportarse a Boulder, Colorado, para el evento de pintura en vivo el 28 de septiembre de 2024.
