Call Description
Photography Contest & Exhibition with a focus on promoting greater awareness of the benefits of local farming and locally-grown food. Sponsored by Crooked Tree Arts Center; Institute for Sustainable Living, Art & Natural Design; Charlevoix County Community Foundation; and the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Community Foundation. There are three different categories of entry: From the Farm, From the Table, and From the Market. One application may be submitted per category of entry. All photographs must be taken in Emmet or Charlevoix counties and must not have been previously exhibited in either county. Terms & Conditions: •There are no residency requirements for participating photographer. However, all photographs must have been taken in Emmet or Charlevoix counties in Michigan. •Eligible contestants can submit in one of two age groups: 18 and under, or adult amateur/professional photographers. •Work must be dependent primarily on photographic processes. •Each photographer may submit up to six entries, two in each of the following categories: O Local food production “from the farm” O Local food sales “from the market” O Local food preparation and presentation “from the table” •Works must not have been previously exhibited in Charlevoix or Emmet County. •Photographs must have been taken between Saturday, June 1, 2013 and Thursday, September 12, 2013. •Artists selected for the exhibition will be notified after Friday, September 27, 2013. •Selected work must be delivered and picked up by the photographer who created the work. •Artwork selected for the exhibition must be framed and ready to hang. Maximum size of framed artwork is 20” by 17“. •Framed artwork may be dropped off during regular business hours at Crooked Tree Arts Center between Monday, September 30 at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday, October 16 at noon. •A name label including: photographer’s name, title of work, and location of photograph must be completed and attached to the upper right hand corner on the back of each work. •Jurors will select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each photo category by age group. One entry from all exhibited artwork will be selected as “Best in Show” regardless of age group. •Award winners will be notified prior to the awards ceremony, with some invited to discuss their work. Actual award placement will be announced at the awards ceremony on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Awards reception will be held in the Carnegie Library Building located at 451 E. Mitchell Street, in the upper level from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. •The Exhibit will be displayed at Crooked Tree Arts Center in the Atrium Gallery from Tuesday, October 22, 2013 through Monday, December 16, 2013. •The photographer grants permission to reproduce accepted entries in publications and media for educational and promotional purposes. Sales & Reproduction: •The retail price of the work that is entered online may not change during the run of the exhibition. •Crooked Tree Arts Center will retain a 40% commission on any work sold from the exhibition. The sales price must reflect this commission. •Purchased work may not be removed from the gallery before Tuesday, December 16, 2013. •Payment for sales will be made on the 10th of the month following the take down of the exhibit. Insurance and Shipping: •Works will be insured while on the Arts Center premises. Works in transit will not be covered. Insurance on artwork is only covered up to 60% of retail value. •Any work not hand delivered must be packaged for return shipping with a prepaid return shipping label included. •ARTISTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ROUND-TRIP SHIPPING OF WORK. •Entering this competition constitutes agreement with all conditions.
