Clatsop Community College announces our fifteenth annual international juried exhibition, Au Naturel: the Nude in the 21st Century, to be held January 23 - March 13, 2025 in the Royal Nebeker Art Gallery, with a reception on Thursday, February 20 at 6 p.m. .  Au Naturel is an international juried competition open to all artists working in any drawing, painting, and printmaking media with a focus on the nude human figure as subject matter in any form ranging from representational to abstract, and in which the handmade mark is employed as the primary means of image-making. This year, a limited number of three-dimensional works may also be considered. Please see size/weight limitations indicated below.  Due to the special focus of this exhibit, photography is not eligible. Entrants must be 18 years or older. Submitted artwork must have been executed in the last five years and must be available for the duration of the exhibit. Any artwork reproduced by photomechanical processes (including giclée prints) will not be accepted. EXHIBITION AWARDS

• $1000 in cash prizes
• Up to $2000 in purchase awards
• One or more artists may be chosen to be featured in a group or solo exhibit in the Royal Nebeker Gallery.  

• A select number of Visiting Artist Workshop awards may also be granted. 

Juror: We are pleased to announce that the juror for the 2025 exhibit is Laura Ross Paul. Laura Ross-Paul is a Portland based artist, teacher and arts cheerleader. She has been painting professionally for over four decades and has been represented by nine different galleries on the West Coast from Seattle to Laguna Beach. She has exhibited her work throughout the Pacific Northwest and California and New York in such venues as the Portland Art Museum, the Seattle Art Museum, the Tacoma Art Museum, the Arnot Museum (NY), the Palm Springs Art Museum, the Art Gym and Portland Institute of Contemporary Art. Her figurative paintings with mystical and psychologically compelling environments are in private and public collections throughout the United States. During her career, Laura has received an Oregon Arts Commission Individual Arts Fellowship,  the Bonnie Bronson Fellowship and the Susan Cooly-Gillion Artist residency.  Her work been awarded juror prizes in biennials at the Portland and Tacoma Art Museums as well as the latest West Coast Biennial at the Turtle Bay Museum in Redding California. A Hollywood feature cable TV film, “Spy”, built a character featuring her work,  and she’s been honored by multiple writers asking to use her work on the covers of their books.

Application Requirements

Submissions accepted via the CaFE System only. 

FEES: There is a non-refundable $45 entry fee for the submission of one to three images (if you would like to submit only one or two pieces for consideration, please upload either duplicate or blank images), and $5.00 for each additional image beyond the third. The maximum number of images that may be submitted is 15. Payment may be made online through CaFÉ with a credit card. Alternatively, you may also pay by check:

Eligibility Criteria

Artists must be 18 years or older.

Artwork must represent the nude human figure and must have been created using the handmade mark.  The focus is on two dimensional work primarily, but a select number of 3D pieces may be accepted. 

Due to the special focus and scope of the show, photography is not eligible. 

Submitted work must have been created within the past five years. 

Submitted work must be available for the duration of the exhibit.  

SIZE/WEIGHT LIMITATIONS: Maximum dimensions for 2D work: 6 feet x 10 feet (183 cm x 305 cm) and must not weigh more than 35 lbs. (16 kg) uncrated.  All accepted artwork must be framed or otherwise professionally presented with wires or hanging devices (no saw-tooth hangers). The maximum footprint of three dimensional art is  36 x 36 inches (91 x 91 cm) and must not weigh over 50 lbs (23 kg) uncrated.
