Pick Up/Check out artwork for all artists 4:30 to 5:30pm. Close at 6pm, a Late Fee $50.00 will be charged to the artist.

Call for WAA Artists Members starts January 6th through February 16th! 

The 2025 WAA Members exhibition will be the Wilmington Art Association's 43rd annual Art Show and Sale, March 28th through April 6th at the Hannah Block Historic Community Arts Center (CAC), 120 S. Second Street in Wilmington, NC from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The opening award reception, Friday, March 28th, from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This event takes place each year during the North Carolina Azalea Festival. Participating artists may join our Judge walkthrough on Saturday, March 29th, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Awards: Best in Show -  $1,000

For the 3 categories: 1st Place $400, 2nd Place $250, & 3rd Place $150

For the 3 categories: Honorable Mentions, The Princess’s Award, The President’s Award, and The People’s Choice Award. 

All New Membership Applications are approved through WAA's website. Current Membership renewals are approved through WAA's website. All accepted artists invited MUST volunteer for a shift at the show.  Mandatory volunteer opportunities will be provided at a later date.

Application Requirements

ENTRY TERMS AND CONDITIONS:  

  • All entries must be for sale.
  • Commission pieces are not allowed.
  • Unless sold, Art must remain in the show until the designated time for pick-up.
  • The artist must have sole ownership over the artwork.
  • Mandatory artists register for a time slot to volunteer during the show.
  • Artists or designees must deliver artwork to the CAC on the designated date/time. Shipped or mailed art will not be accepted.
  • The WAA allows photographs to be taken during the event.
  • All jurying and judging are done anonymously. The Judge’s decision on acceptance is final.
  • The WAA maintains the rights to use photographs of the art and the event for future marketing or promotional materials.
  • Upon entering the show and by submitting payment, the artist agrees to the terms and conditions as outlined in this Prospectus. WAA Membership status must be in active status.

Eligibility Criteria

All participants are required to be current members of the WAA and must be 18 years of age or older. Membership may be renewed and/or requested via the WAA before/by Feb.16th, 5p.m. deadline through WAA website https://wilmingtongallery.org 

Artists may submit ORIGINAL two-dimensional (2-D) work, (including Photography) or three-dimensional (3-D) work. Optional: You may submit them in two categories, BUT ONLY ONE IMAGE EACH.

EXHIBITED ARTWORK ELIGIBILITY: 

  • Artwork must be solely the creation of the artist.
  • Artwork must be original in conception, composition and implementation.
  • No kits, copies, collaborative works or workshop pieces will be accepted.
  • No replicas, giclee reproductions or any modified, copied or imitated art will be accepted.
  • The quality of the creation and design should be consistent with a fine art show.
  • No furniture, jewelry, tea or dining sets allowed.
  • No nudity, erotic or violent themes will be accepted.
  • The artwork must have not been previously exhibited in any WAA art shows and must have been completed after January 1, 2023.
  • Artwork requiring individual easels will not be accepted.
  • Weight of 2D & Photography art must not exceed 15 lbs.
  • Upon check-in, all 2D artwork must be ready for hanging on the display panels.  Hanging guidelines are available at the end of the Prospectus.
  • All artwork must be durable enough to be handled and moved. Fragile and/or damaged frames will not be accepted.

SALES

  • The artist is committed to the sale price listed on CAFÉ registration.
  • A 30% commission will be taken on all sales.
  • Sales tax will be paid by the WAA.
  • WAA will allow buyers to take purchased artwork at the time of sale.

1 – Fine Art: Framed Oil, Acrylic, Pastel, Watercolor, Gouache, Mixed Media, Encaustic, Alcohol Ink, Collage, Drawing, Stained Glass, Printmaking, Egg Tempera, Digital Art.

2 - Fine Art Photography: The original first print. Framed Traditional Fine Art Photography and Digital Conceptualization Photography. Shot with film, shot digitally, on altered shots, digital manipulation, or elements of one or more processes).

3-D Artwork: Ceramic, Glass, Metal, Mixed Media, Paper, Plastic, Textile, or Wood.

Professional PresentationQuality frames on ALL 2D, photography including canvas. No vinyl canvas “wraps” permitted. Photographs may be printed on traditional photo paper, velvet watercolor paper, metal, or canvas. ONLY Art on metal – frames are optional.
Acid-free MatsWhite, black, off-white, or light neutral mats only. A thin color liner is acceptable. Unframed work will not be displayed.
Hanging
  • 2D art will be hung on one or two pin hooks, depending on size and weight of art, on WAA's carpeted display panels.
  • Picture hanging wires must be slack enough for someone to reach behind the art and place the wire on the small hook(s). Be sure the wire does not allow the artwork to lean outward, nor should the wire be visible above the picture after it is hung.
  • Make sure the wire is of adequate strength to support the painting. No sawtooth or adhesive hangers or eye-rings.

Labeling/IdentificationEach piece must have a label with artist's name, title of artwork, medium, price and size affixed to the back upper right corner.
2D BINWORK DETAILS (JotForm open registration - Mar. 2nd to Mar. 16th )
Guidelines
  • Binwork is not part of judging.
  • 15 Pieces maximum, NO frames allowed. Original art or prints allowed. Must be packaged as described below.
  • Any WAA member who has paid the registration fee through Jotform can have bin work for sale.
Bin
  • Bin to be provided by the artist at Check-In.
  • Artist's name must be affixed to bottom of bin.
  • Standard medium bin size of 42 inch height when closed X 24 inch width, black canvas print rack with black legs ONLY. No other sizes or types are allowed.
  • WAA will provide standard artist identification for display.
  • 50 or less standard size business cards are allowed and are to be displayed in WAA provided sleeve.

Canvas/art/prints Wrapping and Packaging

 

 

  • Bin work must be enclosed in Krystal (or another brand) Seal Archival Art & Photo Bags. If required to have white foam board or matboard backing, and cannot exceed bin work maximum size (24”).
  • NO CARDBOARD OR POSTERBOARD is allowed for backing.
Labeling/Identification
  • Bin work must be labeled in front upper right corner with Artist’s Name, Title, Price, Size, Medium, and named ORIGINAL or REPRODUCTION.
Small Wrapped Canvas
  • Must have white foam core or matboard backing.
Plein Air Panels
  • Hard white canvas panels do not need foam core or mat board backing.
Paper
  • Artwork must have white foam core cut or mat board to fit to edge of artwork and must be matted. A one-inch foam core border is acceptable.
Photos and Prints
  • Must have white foam core or mat board cut to fit to edge of artwork.
Inventory
  • Inventory of bin work, with your name, title, price, size, must be entered through JotForm by Deadline-March 16th at 5pm.

WHAT TO KNOW FOR ALL 3D ARTWORK AND BIN WORK

JURIED 3D ARTWORK DETAILS

Mediums
  • Ceramic, Glass, Metal, Mixed Media, Paper, Plastic, Textile, or Wood.
Size Limitations
  • All artwork including bin work must be able to be displayed on a pedestal. It cannot exceed 24" in diameter.
  • Sculptures of five feet or taller that stand safely on the floor and do not exceed the weight limit will be considered.
  • The Show Committee may turn away pieces they believe will not be safely displayed.
Maximum weight
  • Up to 30 lbs.
Professional Presentation
  • Top heavy or unstable work will not be accepted.
  • 3D work with a top or lid or separate piece(s) must have the separate pieces secured and labeled.
  • Freestanding sculptures requiring special mounting or suspension will not be accepted.
  • No illuminated pieces that require electrical connections will be accepted.
Labeling/Identification
  • Each piece must have a label with artist's name, title of artwork, medium, and price affixed to the bottom.
3D BIN WORK DETAILS (JotForm open registration - Mar. 2nd to Mar. 16th )
Guidelines
  • Not part of judging. May have up to 5 pieces.
  • All 3D bin work pieces must fit on a 36" x 36" space/pedestal.
