The World Health Organization (WHO) identified Loneliness and Social Isolation as a global health crisis. WHO established a three year (2024-2026) Commission to increase awareness, stimulate action and support solutions that redefine how we connect with one another.
The Commission defines “Social isolation – having an insufficient number of social connections, and loneliness – and the social pain of not feeling connected”. This not only affects individual health and well-being, but also the prosperity and resiliency of communities.
This “in person” exhibit seeks to use art to raise awareness. We ask you to explore the current state or reimagined future of Loneliness, Social Isolation and Social Connection, Relationships, and/or Resilient Communities, and contribute your visual voice to a greater understanding of these issues. Visit the WHO website for more inspiration @ https://www.who.int/groups/commission-on-social-connection.
This exhibit is held in conjunction with our local West Shore Community College. Their Humankind outreach series features events and resources reflecting the WHO mission. https://www.westshore.edu/humankind/
