Call Description

The Louisiana Percent for Art Program seeks qualifications from professional artists or artist teams for site-specific public artworks at the new STEM Complex at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA.

The STEM Complex will serve as a central academic facility supporting instruction and research in the STEM disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. The building will be a hub for students and faculty and will support the university’s mission of advancing science, innovation, and academic excellence.

The selection committee envisions a series of artworks that reflect the spirit of science, technology, discovery, and innovation. Artists are encouraged to explore themes related to the evolving nature of STEM disciplines and the role they play in shaping the future.

The artwork may also consider the broader narrative of STEM education across time, reflecting the past, present, and future of scientific exploration and technological advancement.

This commission is intended for one artist or artist team, who will develop a cohesive series of three related artworks for key locations within and around the building. Potential locations include suspended and wall-mounted installations within the building’s main atrium, as well as an exterior sculptural work at the site.
