Art League of Hilton Head 2025 Biennale Exhibition

Art League of Hilton Head invites you to enter the 2025 Biennale, its 29th National Juried Exhibition, held every other year and featuring multiple media types, including Oil, Acrylic, Pastel, Watercolor, Photography, Mixed Media, and Three-Dimensional. Over $5,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. All accepted works of art selected by three jurors will be displayed at Art League Gallery inside the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The prestigious juror, Tony Armendariz, will choose the prize winners. This state-of-the-art gallery provides the finest exhibit space with high tourist and community visibility.
The 29th Biennale Judge is Tony Armendariz. Tony is an award-winning American artist living and painting in Palatine, Illinois. Born and raised in Chicago to a graphic arts family, he learned to create with textiles, photography, drawing, and painting. Graduating from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, he studied under renowned watercolor instructor Irving Shapiro. While still attending the Academy, he began his employment in the corporate world for over 20 years as a graphic artist, illustrator, and web designer.
Tony’s work has been published in Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector, and Watercolor Artist magazines. Venues where he has exhibited include The Butler Institute of American Art, RJD Gallery, The Salmagundi Club, and the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art.
Some of Tony’s awards include the Frank Webb Award of Merit at the 2024 Transparent Watercolor Society of America 48th Annual International Exhibition, the Mary Bryan Memorial Award and Medal at the 2023 and 2024 Allied Artists of America 110th and 111th Annual Juried Exhibitions, Best of Show/Purchase/People's Choice Awards at the 2021 VMRC 18th National Juried Art Exhibition, and First Place Award at the 2019 40th International Juried Exhibition of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society.
Tony is a signature member of many national artistic societies, including the American Watercolor Society, the Allied Artists of America, and the Illinois Watercolor Society, where he also served as director. Hilliard Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri, represents him. Tony teaches watercolor painting at the Oak Park Art League in Oak Park, IL.

Application Requirements
All entries will be juried from a digital image. Each artist may enter up to five pieces of original artwork created within the last three years and never accepted into an Art League of Hilton Head juried show before. Only one piece of art per artist will be accepted into the show.
This exhibition is open to US visual artists 18 years or older.
All information provided on the original entry regarding title, size, and price will be accepted as final. Once accepted into the show, no changes may be made. Please consider the gallery commission mentioned below when pricing your artwork.
All exhibited work must be for sale and priced with the intent to sell. A 40% commission to Art League of Hilton Head Island, Inc. will be retained on all sales that occur during the show or as a result of the show.
Entries must be original in concept, composition, and execution. Artwork created under the supervision of an instructor is not eligible. Artwork must not be copied partly or wholly from published or copyrighted work. Giclées are not acceptable. Jewelry art will not be accepted in this exhibit.
The Exhibition Committee may reject any entry considered offensive or not meeting exhibition criteria at its sole discretion.
PREPARATION FOR EXHIBITION:
All works must be quality framed and protected by Plexiglas where appropriate. Only pastel pieces may be covered with glass. Each piece should be securely wired and ready for hanging. Pieces may not exceed 60" x 60", including the frame, or weigh more than 30 pounds.
Sculptures and other three-dimensional art must not exceed 48" x 48" x 48” vertical or weigh more than 30 pounds. Freestanding sculptures should not need special mounting. Small works may be enclosed in a clear plastic case. Bas-reliefs must be wired for hanging.
All 2D pieces must be hung via a metal artwork wire. Art League of Hilton Head reserves the right to exclude accepted work if its size or weight differs from its representation in the initial submission.
DELIVERY AND RETURN OF ARTWORK:
Accepted artworks can be hand-delivered May 10 & 11, 2025, from 12 - 4 pm or shipped to Art League Gallery by Friday, May 9.
Any unsold artwork can be picked up in person or returned via UPS. The artist is responsible for all UPS packaging and shipping charges.
