Niza Knoll Gallery invites artists to submit work for the “Photography Unbound” juried exhibition that will run in conjunction with Denver’s Month of Photography in March of 2025.

We are seeking submissions that use the techniques of collage, photomontage, assemblage works or mixed media that incorporate your photography as a MAIN element. You may combine photos with art forms such as drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, transfers, etc. All photographic images used in the piece must be yours. At least one photographic images must be used. Works may be created, generated and presented using a digital or analog format, 2-D or 3-D. No A.I.-generated images are to be used in the piece.

The theme of the work is open to your imagination. Works will be judged on visual impact, creativity, quality and originality of presentation. If you have questions about whether your idea will fit with the specs of this show, please run it by Niza via email at nizak@mac.com  Please do not call the gallery.

The exhibition will be juried by Amy Norton and Gallery Owner Niza Knoll.

This is a great opportunity for artists to showcase their work to a wider audience in the Art District on Santa Fe in Denver during the very popular and widely marketed Month of Photography event. See more information at denvermop.org

Juror Bios:

Niza Knoll has owned and operated Niza Knoll Gallery for 15 years. She is also a multi-disciplinary artist who seeks out and studies different media—acrylic and oil, photography, graphic design, stone, clay and motion art—constantly in search of the form, or combination of forms, that will best allow her  to express myself.  She received her formal training in painting and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York. After moving to Denver she earned a teaching certification and BFA at Metropolitan State University. She is continuously taking art classes privately and at the Art Students League of Denver. She was also trained and became a docent at the Denver Art Museum. Before becoming a full-time visual artist and gallery owner she had two rewarding careers as a graphic designer/art director and a teacher of painting and photography.

Amy Norton specializes in marketing and communications for small businesses, working with many artists, galleries other creatives. She graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and later earned an Associate Degree in Photography from the Art Institute of Colorado with an emphasis on architectural photography. Her photography has been published in Utah Style and Design and Colorado Homes and Lifestyles. She helped establish the Art District on Santa Fe as an organization serving as an active volunteer and on the Board of Directors. She dabbles in watercolor painting and still enjoys making photographs for fun. She has worked with Niza Knoll Gallery for over 15 years helping to plan and promote exhibitions.

Application Requirements

  • All submitted artwork must adhere to the description above and contain at least one original photographic image created and owned by the artist.
  • Works may be created, generated and presented using analog or digital format, 2-D or 3-D.
  • NO AI-generated images are to be used in the piece.
  • Accepted work must be dropped off in person at the gallery - 915 Santa Fe Drive, Denver. Do not submit work if you do not have the ability to do this on Tuesday, February 25 from 11 am – 3 pm
  • Fee for entry is $35.00 for 1 to 3 entries. Non-refundable

Submissions must include:

1)  Artist's contact information with email and mobile phone number that accepts text messages.

2) Short paragraph about the submitted work.

3) Information about the artwork- Title, Size (with and without frame),  Medium and  Retail Price (Please price with the knowledge that the gallery commission on sales is 40%)

You must be aware of these dates and be able to meet these important deadlines

  • Entry Deadline: Tuesday, February 14, 2025
  • Announcement of accepted works: Sunday, February 19, 2025
  • Drop off accepted work: Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 11 am – 3pm
  • Exhibition Dates: February 28 – March 30, 2025
  • Artist Reception: Sunday, March 2, 2025, 1-4 pm
  • Art Pickup: Sunday, March 30,  3-5 pm

Eligibility Criteria

  • All submitted artwork must adhere to the description above and contain at least one original photographic image created and owned by the artist.
  • Artist must have the ability to drop off accepted work in person to 915 Santa Fe Drive in Denver, Colorado in person on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. . No shipping.
  • All accepted artwork must be for sale and remain in the gallery until Sunday March 30, 2025
  • Gallery commission is 40% of sales.
  • Applicant must be over 18 years of age.
  • 2D or 3D original art only. No videos, no Giclee prints or A.I.
  • Artists are solely responsible for delivery and pick-up of all artwork.
  • Submission fees are non-refundable.

Presentation/Hanging Requirements.

  • All artwork must be well executed, clean, dry and ready to display.
  • All 2D work must be ready to hang with a secure wire on the back. No zigzag or triangular hangers,
  • 2D work use simple frames! Unframed paintings on canvas or board must have at least a 1 in. border
  • 2D work can be no larger than 48 wide x 72 long with or without a frame
  • All 3D work must not exceed 30 pounds. If work weighs more than 25 pounds artist may need to help install the piece.
  • If the 3D work is to be hung on the wall it cannot exceed 25 pounds.
  • If 3D artwork is to be displayed on a pedestal it should be no larger than 24 x 24 inches at the base.
  • 3D work must be sturdy and able to stand-alone.
