The juried Irvine Annual exhibition at Irvine Fine Arts Center showcases artworks from regional and national artists ages 18 and older who work across multiple visual artistic mediums. Media eligible for the exhibition includes assemblage, ceramic, collage, drawing, fiber, metal, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, textile, video, wood. All artworks submitted must be shown wall-mounted. 

Since 1983, this exhibition has surveyed contemporary California art, celebrating the artists, movements, and traditions of the region. Throughout the exhibition, arts discussions provide educational opportunities for the community.

Submissions are reviewed and selected by guest jurors who are established artists and/or arts leaders from a range of fields and institutions such as museums, galleries, and academia. Monetary awards are given to outstanding entries selected by guest jurors and Irvine Fine Arts Center patrons.

The exhibition will be held at Irvine Fine Arts Center located at 14321 Yale Avenue, Irvine, CA 92604.

AWARDS:

Monetary awards will be given to artists for outstanding entries in the following categories:

  • First Place: $700
  • Second Place: $500
  • Third Place: $300
  • Honorable Mention: $200
  • Viewer's Choice: $200

JURORS:

  • Elizabeth Múnzon, artist owner of Múnzon Gallery. Her work has been exhibited in institutions including Long Beach Museum of Art, Long Beach; Oceanside Museum of Art, Oceanside; Torrance Art Museum, Torrance; Brea Gallery, Brea; and Bergamot Station, Santa Monica. In 2022, she founded Munzón Gallery, a contemporary art space in Long Beach’s Cambodia Town dedicated to showcasing emerging and mid-career artists with a particular emphasis on painting and printmaking.
  • Dakota Noot, artist and curator and Acting Director of the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion at Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa California. He has shown work at Highways Performance Space, Santa Monica; MuzeuMM, Los Angeles; Charlie James Gallery, Los Angeles; Torrance Art Museum, Torrance; and Shoshana Wayne Gallery, Los Angeles. He was the recipient of Hyperallergic's Emily Hall Tremaine Journalism Fellowship for Curators.
  • Stephanie Sherwood, artist and curator. Her work has been shown internationally and in the US in exhibition spaces including Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, Los Angeles; LA Artcore, Los Angeles; The Brand Library and Art Center, Glendale; and DAC Gallery, Los Angeles. Her art and curatorial projects have featured in Artillery Magazine, Art and Cake, ART Habens Contemporary Art Review, LA Weekly, Murze Magazine, and Voyage LA.

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • Loan agreements for accepted artwork(s) due Friday, June 6 (no artworks will be exhibited without a loan agreement).

PRESENTATION:

  • Artists are responsible for providing all special or unique presentation components.
  • Artwork may be removed from the exhibition if it is deemed to have compromised craftsmanship that would make it unsafe to exhibit or if it substantially differs from what was originally submitted and reviewed. No refunds will be provided in either case.

ART DELIVERY AND PICKUP:

  • Drop-off dates are June 9-14, unless other arrangements were made and agreed upon in advance. 
  • Shipped entries must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13, packaged in a reusable container for return. The City of Irvine/Irvine Fine Arts Center (IFAC) will not reimburse shipping fees or insurance. 
  • Shipping costs and insurance are the responsibility of the artist. Shipped artwork must be accompanied by a pre-paid return shipping label.
  • Artworks will be available for pick-up September 8-13. Shipped work will be returned in the prepaid package provided by the artist.

LIABILITY:

  • Every reasonable precaution will be taken to ensure protection and careful handling of all artworks inside IFAC. IFAC assumes no insurance liability for damage, theft, or other loss occurred during the delivery or pick up of artwork outside of its premises; insurance coverage applies only within the duration of the exhibition when artworks are in the facility.

SALES:

  • IFAC will retain 25% commission on any work sold during the exhibition.
  • Artists must provide a W9 to receive payment for the sale of their artwork. A W9 form will be provided by IFAC in the event of a sale.
  • Artists are under no obligation to list their work for sale; however, a declared value is necessary to list on the loan agreement for insurance, even if an artwork is not for sale.

Application Requirements

FEES:

  • $20 for one entry.
  • Each additional entry is $12. Maximum six entries total per artist.

AGREEMENT:

  • Submission fees are nonrefundable regardless of final jurying decisions. All entries must be submitted through CAFÉ. Prior to submission, please review your entry file for correct formatting and submission type. Irvine Fine Arts Center will not reimburse applicants who submit incorrect files in their application.

ARTISTS:

This exhibition is open to all visual artists residing in Southern California and the continental United States ages 18 and older. All entries must be original and not shown previously at the Irvine Fine Arts Center.

All artwork must be compliant with City of Irvine Public Arts Policy (see page 8)
