How the Selection Process Works

The final artwork and selected artists will be determined by the Standards Committee, which includes representatives from:

  • Destination Downtown Waynesboro (DDW)
  • Waynesboro Tourism and Economic Development
  • Virginia Street Arts Festival (VSAF)
  • Shenandoah Valley Art Center (SVAC)
  • Building owners and community stakeholders

Artists will be chosen based on their portfolios, artistic style, and how well their proposals align with the mural themes, which may include outdoor, historical, or other community-inspired subjects. Collaboration with the Standards Committee and building owners will ensure the murals reflect the unique spirit of Waynesboro.

What to Expect During the Festival

Selected artists will create their murals live during the festival weekend, working alongside volunteers from SVAC, DDW, and the community. Spectators will have the chance to witness the creative process firsthand and engage with you as you bring your vision to life.

The festival will also feature:

  • Live music to energize the atmosphere
  • Collaborative art activities, such as chalk murals created by festival attendees
  • Interactive games, including a downtown BINGO challenge where participants explore local businesses and landmarks for prizes
  • Guided mural tours hosted by the Waynesboro Public Library, highlighting the history and artists behind the city's existing murals

Visitors will experience the vibrant energy of Waynesboro’s arts scene, with opportunities to shop, dine, and explore galleries and museums downtown.
