Juried Art Exhibit @ Piazza Hospitality empty lot in downtown Sebastopol, CA

Call for Entry: Sculpture, Site-Specific Artwork, and/or Installation

Theme: Belonging

Sebastopol Center for the Arts and Piazza Hospitality invites artists to submit work for an upcoming public art exhibition exploring the theme of Belonging. This exhibit will delve into the intricate connections between people and places, the bonds that tie individuals to a community, and the universal search for a sense of connectedness.

We seek sculptures, site-specific artworks, or installations that interpret the concept of "belonging" in diverse and meaningful ways. Artists are encouraged to reflect on themes such as:

  • Belonging to a small town and the Sebastopol community 
  • The significance of feeling connected
  • The role of community in shaping identity
  • A sense of place and connection to the natural and built environment
  • Environmental sustainability and celebrating the beautiful place of Sebastopol and West County.

Work will be exhibited outdoors in an empty lot in Sebastopol, a vibrant town celebrated for its deep-rooted artistic spirit and its dedication to fostering community.  Selected works will resonate with Sebastopol’s unique sense of place and invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences of belonging.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Open to all artists working in sculpture, site-specific art, and installation.
  • Artworks must be original and align with the exhibit's theme.
  • Site-specific works should consider the exhibit’s physical location, engaging with its surroundings in a meaningful way.
  • Installation in Sebastopol,CA 
  • Artists may submit up to three works for consideration.

Medium Guidelines

We welcome submissions that embody the themes of belonging, connectedness, wonder and community in the following formats:

  • 2D Art: Paintings, drawings, photography, prints, and mixed media works.
  • 3D Art: Sculpture and assemblages that inspire a sense of belonging
  • Playground-Inspired Works: Functional or conceptual designs inspired by playground structures.
  • Installations: Large-scale or immersive works 
  • Interactive Art: Works that invite audience participation, encourage movement, or provoke curiosity and laughter.

All mediums accepted, but work must be weather proof.  Location is an empty field surrounded by a chain link fence.  Preference is given to art that activates the space and viewers engagement with the space. 
 

Exhibition Dates: May 1 - Oct 31, 2025        

Call Opens: Jan 9, 2025 

Call Closes: March 28, 2025 

Jurying dates: March 31 - April 4, 2025

Notifications to artists: April 11, 2025  

Artwork Delivery: April 28, 2024

Medium & Dimensions

All mediums accepted, but work must be weather proof.  Location is an empty field surrounded by a chain link fence.  Preference is given to art that activates the space and viewers engagement with the space. 


 

Please Note In order to promote artists currently working, we are asking for work produced in the last 3 years. 


 

Eligibility

● Open to artists worldwide. 

● Maximum of 3 pieces of artwork per artist. 

● Artist is responsible for delivering and installing work.

● All work must have been completed in the last 3 years. 


 

Submissions must be entered online only

Please ensure that all images are 5MB or less in size and are in JPEG format. 

●     Please submit a high quality image that best represents your work. Work that differs from the submission image may not be included in the exhibition. 

Please include dimensions and weight.

Artists who propose site-based pieces will be notified if they are being considered on the notification date, and will be contacted for more details and specifications to determine feasibility before the piece is officially selected for the exhibition.

Artists who propose installations or tech-based pieces, please include equipment needs and what the artist will provide.  For site-based pieces, the images/videos submitted should show related work by the artists that can help us visualize the proposed piece, and possibly a drawing or digital mock-up of the proposed idea.

Artists who propose video, please submit video excerpts or video documentation of pieces, please limit it to 1:30 min documentation (or a link with cue times) or a 2min excerpt (or a link with cue times) and a link to the whole piece.


 

Installation of work

● Must be delivered and installed on site on April 28, 2024 (or by prior arrangement)


 

LIABILITY REGARDING WORK SUBMITTED:   

Selected work must be on view for the duration of the exhibit. Work may not be withdrawn prior to close of the exhibition.   

Selected artists agree to allow work to be photographed for media use, for educational and publicity purposes.
