The City of Orlando invites artists to submit proposals for a public art installation at Fire Station 6. The commissioned artwork will honor the dedication and service of Orlando’s firefighters and reflect their pride, commitment, and community connection. The piece should inspire a sense of honor, appreciation, and service while providing a meaningful and visually striking element for the station. Additionally, the artwork should enhance the ceremonial significance of the site.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
- Art Feature Budget: $78,000.00
A total of up to $78,000 is allocated to fund this art project, including all Artwork development, Artwork transportation; of the total amount, funding is reserved to support Artwork related Site preparation and installation, as well as all required permits, inspections and associated utility hook-up, if necessary.
*Note: A $1,000 stipend will be provided to the top three artists being considered. Finalists may be asked to provide additional detailed proposals or undergo further evaluation, which could include input from local government representatives or corporate partners.
- Design Intent: 3D artwork to be installed at a designated location outlined in the attached site map.

ELIGIBILITY
This opportunity is open to local, national, and international professional artists with experience designing and implementing large-scale public art. Submissions will only be considered from artists with a proven record of completing similar projects on budget and on schedule.
The Artwork should be created of material appropriate to an outdoor environment, must be of suitable construction that will last in perpetuity with minimal maintenance and be appropriate for public viewing. Orlando, Florida has a sub-tropical climate and is hot and humid with intense sun and seasonal heavy rain. Materials with problems of fading should be avoided. Resistance to high-speed, hurricane force winds is important. The Art must meet applicable building codes.
The City of Orlando Fire Department Station 6 Art Review Board will evaluate each artists work based on submission materials and seek more detailed proposals if needed. Specific criteria includes: the artists professional qualifications and proven ability to undertake projects of a similar scope and artistic merit as evidenced by the submitted materials. In some instances, selection may require additional approval of corporate and/or local government representatives. Finalists for this project will be chosen on the proposed Artwork and on the strength of previous work as evidenced by the visual support materials and previous public art experience.

Artists must submit the following materials by February 7, 2025 :
- Completed Entry Form on Café website
- Current résumé or CV.
- One-paragraph biography.
- Artist statement addressing the vision for the proposed artwork.
- Projected budget and payment schedule.
- Minimum of five (5) images of past outdoor artworks (to scale).
- Detailed description of proposed artwork, including materials, dimensions, weight, installation requirements, and estimated value.
- Proposed project schedule.
- Required maintenance narrative.
Eligibility Criteria
ARTWORK CRITERIA
The artwork must:
- Reflect the values and culture of Orlando’s community and honor its firefighters.
- Be constructed of durable, outdoor-appropriate materials suitable for Orlando’s subtropical climate, including resistance to sun exposure, high humidity, heavy rain, and hurricane-force winds.
- Be designed to require minimal maintenance and adhere to applicable building codes.
- Be appropriate for public and pedestrian-friendly environments.
The Artwork should not include:
· Theme park representation;
· Logos;
· Specific or identifiable sports team representation;
· Representation of individual businesses;
· References to Pulse Nightclub, as other projects (both public & private) focus on this theme;
· References to COVID-19;
· Identifiable persons or celebrities;
· Copyrighted or trademarked materials of third parties;
· Political messages;
