Introduction:

Creative Visions: Dania Beach Public Art Initiative invites national artists to propose innovative public art concepts for the City of Dania Beach. The Public Art Advisory Board (PAAB) seeks fresh ideas from artists and creatives, with a focus on temporary, interactive, and technologically enhanced projects that may incorporate performance and storytelling. While permanent installations may be considered, the emphasis is on dynamic, short-term artistic expressions.

Please note: While it is not a requirement and we welcome all proposals, national artists are encouraged to team with a South Florida artist. Artists are also encouraged to partner with Dania Beach and/or South Florida businesses or non-profit organizations.

Objectives:

  1. Transform Dania Beach into a canvas for public creativity, enhancing the city's art program and broadening the scope of public art.
  2. Foster artist-led community engagement, possibly addressing social and environmental and/or other topics through creative means, and/or narrating the city's story through diverse media.
  3. Facilitate collaborations between artists and various sectors including city administration, community organizations, businesses, educational institutions, and industries.
  4. Generate ideas to reimagine Dania Beach's public spaces.

We welcome applications from a wide range of creative professionals - including but not limited to professional public artists, mosaicists, filmmakers, writers, musicians, painters, photographers, and poets. Eligibility is for artists with at least 5 years of professional public art experience. Student and emerging artists are encouraged to participate as part of a team with an established artist or educational sponsor.

Selected artists will be asked to develop more detailed proposals for potential implementation and will be paid a stipend of $250.00.

Key Considerations:

  • Utilize accessible outdoor public spaces and Dania Beach's natural environment. Suggested locations include:
    • Dania Beach public parks
    • Dania Beach gateways to the city
    • City Hall and outdoor spaces
    • Dania Pointe and other Dania Beach business locations
    • Dania Beach neighborhoods (especially those that may not typically experience artistic or creative activities)
  • Prioritize community engagement, visitor appeal, and meaningful messaging
  • Clearly define project duration, installation logistics, and timing of performances (if applicable)
