View Art Center in Old Forge NY seeks works of art in all media exploring the theme of the book as art.
For more than five centuries, mass-produced books have connected us at an unprecedented scale through the power of shared ideas, inspiration, imagination, and information. The exhibition will feature works that repurpose, reference, and reimagine this ubiquitous form. We welcome submissions in all media, from handmade books and conventional bookmaking, to creative expressions inspired by books, their forms, and their cultural significance. This includes repurposing books, creating sculptural works, or other work inspired by their form, stories, or characters. This call is open to all media. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces.
Juror of Selection: Rhoda Rosenberg
In 1979 Rosenberg was a Finalist in Printmaking for a Massachusetts Council on the Arts Grant. In 2003, she was recognized for outstanding teaching with School of the Museum of Fine Art’s Russel T. Smith Award, and has received a SMFA’s Faculty Enrichment Grant for her work in South Africa. In 2005 she received a grant from the Artist Resource Trust Grant at the Berkshire Taconic Foundation, and an Atlantic Papers Materials Award at Boston Printmakers North American Print Biennial in 2007.
