Call Description

View the full call HERE for a complete description.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has a long-standing tradition of excellence in engineering education. In 1940, the College of Engineering was officially established with the opening of Parker Hall. Madison Hall, completed in 1957, became a dedicated space for engineering and geology, and continues to serve as a vital academic building on campus.

The Madison Hall public art commission will include both an interior and exterior artwork created by a single artist or artist team. This unified approach supports a cohesive artistic vision. The interior component will be placed in the building’s main lobby, a highly visible and symbolic space that serves as a central hub for students and visitors. The exterior component will be located near the new entrance of Madison Hall. It should be visually striking, welcoming, and reflective of the same values and themes as the interior piece, celebrating UL Lafayette’s engineering legacy and future.

Application Requirements

A complete application must include the following:

  • Résumé demonstrating at least five (5) years of professional visual art experience (NOT STUDENT WORK). If submitting as a team, a current résumé should be submitted for each team member (compiled into one document). A biography will not be accepted in place of a résumé.
  • A Letter of Interest, making a brief statement (no more than one page) outlining your interest in the project and artistic vision.
  • References with the names and current contact details of three people you have previously partnered with, worked with, or commissioned your work.
References will be contacted for artists invited to develop a proposal for the commission.
  • Up to 10 images of past commissions or artworks, NOT proposals, which demonstrate your ability to create large-scale installations. 3-D models, sketches, or drawings will not be accepted. You must include the title, medium, dimensions, project budget (price), year completed, location, and description. The value must be indicated in US dollars.
  • Up to 3 videos (optional) of work examples
