Call Description
Submissions Now Open: Your Art on a Billboard in Los Angeles
The Billboard Creative (TBC) is now accepting submissions for our annual exhibition, transforming Los Angeles into an open-air gallery. This is your chance to have your work displayed on a billboard in LA , reaching millions of people in one of the world’s most vibrant art cities.
TBC showcases emerging, underrepresented, and mid-career artists by placing mass-scale works on billboards throughout the city. Strategically located in high-traffic neighborhoods near galleries, museums, and art districts, each billboard amplifies the artist's impact, turning public spaces into a citywide exhibition.
Our past exhibitions have been viewed over 82 million times and featured in Hyperallergic, Huffington Post, NPR, and more. We believe art should be accessible to everyone—not confined to gallery walls—and our mission is to provide artists with an opportunity to share their work on a massive scale.
Cash Awards
In addition to the exhibition, TBC awards three artists $1,000 each as a nonspecific art grant. All artists who submit are eligible for these grants, whether or not their work is selected for the show.
Eligibility
Submissions are open to all artists. If your artwork can be converted into a digital file, we can put it on a billboard.
Now is your chance to bring your work to a wider audience—submit today!
About TBC
The Billboard Creative (TBC) is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that transforms the city’s billboards into open-air galleries, connecting emerging and underrepresented artists with mass audiences. By showcasing an international selection of artworks in public space, TBC expands access to contemporary art, reaching those who may not engage with traditional exhibitions. Our core principle is to create a more democratic and inclusive art experience, ensuring that art is not confined to galleries but integrated into daily life.
What We Do
TBC offers an alternative to the commercial landscape of city billboards by turning them into large-scale public art installations. Our exhibitions replace advertising at some of LA’s busiest intersections—including Sunset & Vine, Beverly & Laurel, and Hollywood & Western—transforming the urban environment into a citywide gallery.
Past exhibitions have featured artists such as Ed Ruscha, Lawrence Weiner, Marilyn Minter, and Paul McCarthy alongside emerging talents from across the globe. TBC’s shows are widely promoted, with participating artists receiving extensive media coverage in *Huffington Post, HAF, Vice,* and *Site Specific*.
How it Works
- TBC uses a simple “Call for Entries” process to accept images and submission fees. After submissions close, we will conduct a blind-review process to select all pieces that will be included in the exhibit.
- Selected artists will receive their own billboard in Los Angeles for four consecutive weeks. TBC covers all expenses for the production, mounting and leasing of the billboard.
- All TBC show billboards are documented after installation, with high-res imagery made available to both the media and participating artists for use on social media, websites and other communications.
- Viewers are guided through the show via a smartphone map, which provides directions for visiting multiple locations, as well as bios and links to each artist.
Application Requirements
