The Depot Art Gallery welcomes all Colorado artists to apply for its Fiber Art Colorado art show, a celebration of creativity and innovation in the fiber arts. This juried exhibition showcases the diverse and dynamic ways in which artists are pushing the boundaries of traditional and contemporary fiber art techniques. Emerging and established artists are invited to submit their artwork. Selections will be made based on pieces that demonstrate exceptional skill, creativity, and a unique voice in the world of fiber arts. Cash awards will be presented for Best of Show, 2nd and 3rd Place and three Honorable Mentions. 

About the Juror: Submissions will be juried by David van Buskirk. David van Buskirk is a master weaver, textile designer, fiber artist, and educator, specializing in the tactile and sensory experience of weaving. He has served as a design director for major textile manufacturers in New York and as an Adjunct Professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology (1999–2017). Since relocating to Denver in 2017, he has exhibited in prestigious shows such as the Rocky Mountain Biennale, Art of the State, and Excellence in Fiber. He holds a BFA in Surface Design and Art Education from the University of Northern Colorado and has completed advanced studies in textile design and handweaving in Sweden, including a three-year apprenticeship with renowned designer Åke Faith-Ell. Application Requirements

  1. This exhibition is open to all artists working in Colorado.
  2. All submissions must be made through CaFE  (https://www.callforentry.org/).
  3. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces of artwork for consideration through CaFE. Submissions must include a jpg file of each submitted piece (title the jpg with your last name and title of artwork,  ie. Smith_ColorfulColorado.jpg)  along with a brief artist statement, and a list of the materials and techniques used in each piece.
  4. All entries must be submitted by midnight June 23, 2025. Late entries will not be considered.
  5. A non-refundable entry fee of $35.00 is required for up to three(3) pieces.


 

Eligibility Criteria

Open to Colorado artists of all levels, backgrounds, and experience levels. 

Medium: Submissions must fall within the domain of fiber arts, which may include but are not limited to:

  • Textile art
  • Embroidery
  • Quilting
  • Weaving
  • Felting
  • Paperwork
  • Beading
  • Mixed media incorporating fiber elements (at least 51% of artwork should be fiber)
  • Wearable fiber art

Size and Scale: Submitted artworks should be manageable for display at The Depot Art Gallery, which is housed in a historic building. Artwork which requires hanging from the ceiling cannot be accommodated.

a. The Depot utilizes a non-destructive hanging wall system.,

b. The Depot accepts the following sizes (including framing, displays, rods, etc.):

  • 2D wall hanging artwork - up to 30” in any direction, up to 25 pounds
  • 3D wall hanging artwork - up to 20” in any direction, up to 25 pounds
  • 3D free-standing artwork - up to 30” wide and 40” tall, up to 25 pounds

c. All accepted artwork must be ready to hang or display with quilt sleeve, hanging rod, wire hanger on back, etc.

Acceptance Process

1. Notification of Acceptance: Artists will be notified of the status of their submission on July 25. Accepted artists will receive further instructions regarding exhibition details.

2. Delivery and Return of Artwork:

  • Accepted artworks by Denver Metro Artists: artwork must be hand-delivered to the exhibition at the Depot Art Gallery - 2069 W. Powers Ave., Littleton, CO 80120, on Sunday, September 7, 2025 between 9am-12pm.
  • Accepted artworks by  Colorado Artists residing outside the Denver Metro area: if shipped, must be received by Friday, August 22, 2025. Absolutely no art can be shipped to the Depot. Detailed shipping instructions will be given to invited artists.
  • All artwork must have an inventory sheet and attached tags, one on the front and one on the back. Blank tags and an inventory sheet will be emailed to you upon acceptance into the show.
  • Each artwork must be clearly labeled with the artist’s name and title of artwork on the back.
  • Three-dimensional artworks must be able to stand on their own or be submitted with adequate display stands.

The Depot Art Gallery reserves the right to reject any artwork not matching submission guidelines, or which is not properly presented for exhibit, or which it deems inappropriate for the Depot Art Gallery setting or its clientele.        

Shipping artwork to and from the gallery for out of Denver Metro artists only:

Shipping will only be available for fiber artists outside the Denver Metro area who reside in Colorado. The detailed info will be emailed with acceptance letters. Artists will be notified one month before the 'receive by' date, giving them approximately a month to arrange shipping. Shipped entries must be received by August 22nd. Absolutely no art can be shipped to the Depot. 

Sales: All artwork must be for sale. The Depot Art Gallery (the Littleton Fine Arts Guild, Inc.) will manage and retain a 30% commission on all sales.

Awards: A total of $1,500 will be awarded. Cash awards will be presented for Best of Show, 2nd and 3rd Place and three Honorable Mentions. The Awards Ceremony will be at the Reception on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Depot Art Gallery.

Liability: All artwork will be handled with care. However, accidents and events out of our control may occur. The Littleton Fine Arts Guild, Inc., the Depot Art Gallery, and the City of Littleton will not be responsible for, or reimburse for any theft or losses of any artwork or for damage to any artwork, including framing, that may incur on the premises. Artists are encouraged to maintain their own insurance.

Important Dates:

Wednesday, April 23 – Call opens

Monday, June 23 – Call closes at midnight

Friday, July 25 – Jury notifications sent by email

Friday, August 22 - “Received by” deadline only for Colorado Artists residing outside the Denver   Metro area who are shipping their work. 

Sunday, September 7 – Hand-Delivery deadline for Denver Metro Artists. Artwork must delivered to the Depot Art Gallery, 9am-12pm. No Exceptions. 

Tuesday, September 9 – Show opens at the Depot gallery at 11am

Saturday, September 13 – Reception and Awards Ceremony 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Depot gallery

Saturday, October 11 – Exhibit Closes at 4pm

Sunday, October 12 – Pick up of unsold artwork 12-4pm. If you are not available to pick up your work, you must make arrangements for someone to do so for you. The Gallery does not have storage space. Artwork must not be left at the Depot Art Gallery. For the artists who shipped their artwork, any unsold work will be mailed back within a week.
