Call Description

Call for Photography: "State of Our Union"

We invite photographers to submit work for a collaborative exhibition exploring life in the United States over the past decade. In a time of deep polarization, our country has witnessed a range of powerful events, movements, and cultural shifts that have shaped who we are today.

This exhibition seeks to present multiple perspectives—personal, political, cultural, and social—through the lens of photography. We are looking for compelling images that reflect the diverse realities, struggles, hopes, and contradictions that define the state of our nation. From moments of unity to voices of dissent, we welcome work that captures the complexity and nuance of contemporary American life.

Call for Entry: Open to amateur and professional photographers working in all photographic mediums.

Selection Process: The juror will choose 30 works across three categories.

Four awards, each prize: $500.

An Award will be given in three categories.

A Best in Show Award will be granted to an outstanding overall submission.

About the juror: Alan Haywood is a photographer with over forty years of experience and a BFA in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design. He began his career at Shearer Visuals, working on corporate editorial photography for Fortune 500 companies like IBM and General Foods. He later opened his own studio, specializing in promotional portraiture and still-life photography for advertising for over thirty years.

Alan has taught photography at Educage, an alternative high school, and served as a teaching assistant at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. He was also an adjunct teacher at Rippowam Cisqua School, introducing elementary students to photography. In addition, he has mentored students through programs like W.I.S.E. and directed the photography program at the Northern Westchester Center for the Arts.

He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the Tri-State area, is a member of The Ossining Arts Council, and serves on the board of The Capa Space.
