Call Description

The Indy Art Center announces a Call for Entry to The Awakened Infestation: AI in Contemporary Art. The Awakened Infestation: AI in Contemporary Art is a juried exhibition featuring contemporary artworks that utilize AI processes directly in the creation of the artwork or reflect on AI and its impacts conceptually. This exhibition will highlight the obstacles and challenges this technology presents to artists and creatives of all kinds. Artworks accepted for inclusion should offer original discourse to the subject of AI

The intention of this exhibition is to feature works in a variety of media ranging from traditional processes (conceptually infusing or referencing AI) to contemporary and new media processes (directly apply AI technology.)

The unregulated introduction of AI technologies represents an existential tipping point for all creative industries as well as a reckoning for society and our values at a larger scale. Artists are at the forefront of this discussion as we are already seeing the impacts of these technologies with artless AI generated slop permeating online spheres. How do artists respond to this new landscape? With the AI-genie not likely to fit back in its bottle, how can artists adapt to these technologies? 

Artists may submit artworks that directly implement the use of AI technology in their construction. Artworks that do utilize AI in their form are expected to have considerable conceptual or formal sophistication beyond the initial generation of any images. The jury of selection will be considering how the submitted works conceptually reflect or respond to the introduction of such technologies on creatives and contemporary art making processes. 

This exhibition is open to a variety of installation and documentation methods for artworks. 

It is the artist's responsibility to ensure clarity for intended display methods of submitted artworks. The Art Center has a variety of display monitors and projectors for digital displays. Installation artists should contact us before applying to ensure compatibility of space.

EXPECTED ARTWORK DELIVERY: July 9 – July 27, 2025

ARTWORK INSTALLATION: July 28 – August 17, 2025

EXHIBITION OPENS: August 18, 2025

EXHIBITION RECEPTION: Friday, August 22nd 5-8pm

EXHIBITION CLOSES: October 5th, 2025

EXPECTED ARTWORK RETURN: October 6th – October 11th, 2025

Application Requirements

Entry Fee:
$35 non-refundable entry fee for the submission of two pieces. $5 additional for each submission up to 6 pieces. Each artist or artist team may submit up to six pieces of work for jurying.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility:

-Artworks in any media are eligible for inclusion. 

-This exhibit is open to all artists over the age of 18 residing in the United States.

-Work must be made within the last two years and cannot have been previously shown at the Art Center.

-All work must be original and made by the artist or artist team. Collaborative works made between artists are eligible for inclusion.
