Juror
MICHAEL FELICE is a Philadelphia-based artist with over a decade of experience. He originally studied Mathematics and Art at the University of Central Florida and has continued his academic work with Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He typically works in figurative clay sculpture and illustrative printmaking. His wide breadth of study in Art History has led him to a linear chronology of artistic influence up to today. Greatly inspired by the works of Classical Antiquity, the Renaissance, and the late 19th/early 20th Century Masters, Michael’s artistic work builds on the fundamental premise that good art goes beyond the artist and their intention. Michael’s core philosophy is based on the idea that art must be engaged with every day by every person. He believes it is necessary that great art is accessible to the general public in order to “provide a strong cultural backbone and a richly symbolic repertoire essential to achieve and maintain our most fundamental, pervasive, and significant forms of discourse.” Michael has a keen eye to recognize artists that are following in the footsteps of creating art for art’s sake, or those that are at least trying to achieve this goal. He gives great energy to support these artists– believing one of the best gifts an artist can grant or receive is judgement and critique, seeing it as an act of deep investment, care, and love for art and artistry.
