Call Description

The City of Granbury and the Granbury Cultural Arts Commission are seeking original designs by Hood County artists to cover utility boxes, also known as traffic signal cabinets, there is a total of 25 to be covered for project completion, as part of the Out of the Box Program. This is an incredible opportunity to be paid to have your artwork featured in public spaces and contribute to the artistic vibrancy of our community. Each artist must submit an entirely digital application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The original artwork submissions can be created in any 2D medium.

We encourage you to apply and showcase your talent.

Project Details:

· Box dimensions: 56” tall by 151” around (approximately) - a wrap of that size will go completely around the exterior of the box.

· Selected artists will be paid a $250.00 stipend per design chosen by the person that will sponsor the box. Artists can submit up to three (3) design proposals.

Application Requirements

Applicant must live or work as an artist in Hood County, Texas.

Eligibility Criteria

· Artwork submitted must reflect the natural beauty, history, and spirit of Granbury.

· Digital version of existing artwork provided by the artist who owns the copyright and or, the artwork is not on display permanently in a public location within the City of Granbury.

o Artwork that is created digitally (photographs, etc.) DPI 300

· Selected artwork should be scalable to the different sized projects including vertical and horizontal shapes. Due to the different sized projects some cropping may occur.

· We are seeking images that people will positively connect with emotionally and will draw people passing by on foot, bicycle or in a vehicle.

· Artwork must be of original design and personal execution.

· Entries must be original art in any form of media.

 

Images that will not be considered:

· No advertising, branding, or commercial images allowed.

· Artwork cannot include logos, advertising, photographs of people, or any wording.

· Artwork that includes any breach of intellectual property, trademarks, brands, or any images of illegal activity.

· Artwork of original design and personal execution by the Artist.\Original art in any form of media.

Below is a list of TxDOT requirements:


· All wrap designs are subject for TxDOT approval acceptance prior to installation.

· No form of advertising or offensive material is allowed.

· The wrapping cannot cover or obstruct the vents in the cabinet.

· The wrapping cannot cover or obstruct the TxDOT sticker/number.

· TxDOT assumes no liability or cost for removal or installation should the cabinet be required to be replaced or removed for maintenance, damage, or construction.

· All costs of the wrap will be the responsibility of the Sponsor.


Artwork submitted must have been designed and executed entirely by the Applicant. Responding to this call constitutes agreement that submitted work and resume experience are entirely the applicant’s own. No submission or any portion thereof may be derived from another source.

The right is reserved by the City of Granbury to modify the application process, selection process, and/or project timeline. The project start date will be mutually agreed upon between the Granbury Cultural Arts Commission and the select Artist(s). The final recommendation by the Granbury Cultural Arts Commission of the selection of art will be presented to the Granbury City Council for their decision, which is final.

The Artist’s work will be selected from submissions by the person that will Sponsor the box. At that time, the Granbury Cultural Arts Commission will contact the Artist as to the art selected and give further information. Applicants must have a valid working email address. Please be sure to adjust your email settings to accept messages from Café and Granbury Cultural Arts Commission to prevent your notification from going into your junk mail folder. All emails from Granbury Cultural Arts Commission and /or Café will be presumed to have been timely received.

The artist shall create an original work exclusively for the City of Granbury. The work shall not be recreated in any other format. The work shall not be used in any advertisement by anyone other than the CIty of Granbury, nor be reproduced without the express written consent of the CIty of Granbury.
