Call Description
State of The Arts 2025 is the Prairie Village Arts Council's 19th annual juried competition for all 2D and 3D artworks (excluding photography) held every Fall. The Exhibition runs during the months of September & October.
The show will open September 15th for People's Choice Voting.
Awards:

Our Juror: Kwanza Humphrey
Kwanza Humphrey is a prolific artist who creates emotionally evocative portraiture in oil on canvas and mixed media on paper. His impulse to express himself through images extends back to early childhood and the practice of capturing the world around him through his art. Kwanza has been bringing his visions to life for over 30 years.
Kwanza is an award-winning artist who has been included in exhibitions across the United States. Including being one of a small group of artists selected for inclusion in the new terminal at the Kansas City International Airport. Kwanza’s masterful and disciplined work, often characterized as impressionistic realism, resides in the permanent collection of the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as in extensive private collections.
Application Requirements
ENTRY DETAIL
Three entries allowed per artist. Entry fee is $40 for 1 to 3 entries. Fees are non-refundable. No more than one piece of art per artist will be selected by the juror for the show. The final round of adjudication will be announced after posting of the show.
All work MUST be for sale. The Sales Commission to the Prairie Village Arts Council is 10%. (This is a newly reduced commission approved by the Council in 2024 to better support our exhibiting artists and to, hopefully, make pricing more accessible for some prospective buyers.) Prices listed on the entry form are binding and cannot be changed after submission to the show is made. All purchased artwork is to remain in the Gallery until the closing of the show. Buyer can collect from the Gallery on the closing day or coordinate with the artist after the show for receipt of purchased artwork.
Receipt of work: Winners will be notified and invited to bring their winning work to the Prairie Village Arts Council Gallery for display per the schedule above. We will work with our winners to make arrangements for delivery of your work.
Artwork accepted for display is to be picked up on Saturday, November 8th, 2025 between the hours of 8:30AM and 9AM only. Artwork not picked up on November 8th, 2025, will be charged a storage fee of $10 per day until the Artwork is picked up. Any Artwork unclaimed 30 days after the date of exhibition closing will become property of the City of Prairie Village.
Eligibility Criteria
ELIGIBILITY
Open to all Artists, 18 years of age or older, within about a 2 hour drive of our gallery. Artists shall be able to attend the artist reception and awards ceremony if selected for the show.
2D & 3D Artwork of any media, except for photography, is acceptable. Artwork must be original, not more than 2 years old, not done in a class or under supervision of another artist, and not copied from published photos or from photos taken by others without their written permission. If copyright infringement is discovered the artwork will be disqualified (The Prairie Village Arts Council hosts a photography show in May to allow our photography-artists a juried show).
All 2D Artwork selected for display must be D-ringed, wired and ready for hanging. No clip frames, flat brackets with holes, saw tooth hangers, or string hangers permitted. 2D framed (or if unframed) size should not exceed 25 square feet total. All 3D work cannot exceed 18” in any one dimension.
