Call for Art: Gallery of Hermosa Exhibit at Creative Space Hayashi — A Cross-Cultural Collaborative Exhibition in Chigasaki, Japan

Gallery of Hermosa is thrilled to announce an international collaborative art exhibition with Creative Space Hayashi in the heart of Chigasaki, Japan - We are calling on artists to submit their best work.

We are seeking high-quality, original artwork from emerging and established artists alike. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your art in a thoughtfully curated exhibit that celebrates creative exchange, cultural connection, and artistic excellence. We welcome a range of 2D mediums including painting, mixed media,  and photography. All styles and themes will be considered.

About Creative Space Hayashi
Located in the seaside town of Chigasaki, Creative Space Hayashi is more than just a gallery — it’s a gathering place where people connect, ideas are exchanged, and inspiration flourishes. Its open, warm atmosphere invites reflection, conversation, and community through the arts.

About the Collaboration
This exhibit marks a meaningful collaboration between Gallery of Hermosa (California, USA) and Creative Space Hayashi (Chigasaki, Japan) — two spaces rooted in their local communities and passionate about building global artistic bridges. Together, we are creating an exhibit that brings artists and viewers into dialogue across oceans and cultures. Through this partnership, we hope to share new perspectives, inspire connection, and support artistic voices from around the world.

Eligible Works:
We welcome high quality 2D works in all mediums. Can include but not limited to paintings in oil, watercolor, mixed media, pastel, acrylic, pen and ink, sumi-e, pencil drawings, works in ceramic, bronze, marble, stone or other mediums. We will consider all genres including but not limited to landscapes, figurative, portraits, abstract, surreal, still life, impressionism, expressionism, pop art, realism, conceptual art, digital art, photography and more. 

Submission Details:

  • Artists: Open to all local, national, and international artists.
  • Art Criteria: We are looking for art that represents your best work. Artwork does not have to be a specific theme or relate to Japan.
  • Size: Paintings should not exceed 24" wide x 36" height.
  • Price: All price points will be considered. Artwork must be available for sale.
  • Quality: High-quality, original art only. All mediums and genres will be considered.
  • Photography: Must be unique or part of a limited edition series. Please specify the series and edition and note as such on the artwork.
  • Artist Statement: Please include an artist statement with your submission. This should provide insight into the inspiration behind your work.
  • Social Media and Website: Include your social media handles and website URL.
  • Shipping: Accepted artists will be responsible for shipping their artwork to Japan. Details will be provided upon acceptance.
  • Hang Ready: All artwork MUST be HANG READY to participate in the exhibition. Hang Ready means the artwork is fitted with an appropriate apparatus to hang/be installed in the gallery (i.e., if it is a painting, it has a wire/hook on the back; if it is a drawing/photo/other flat artwork, it is framed and the frame has a hook/wire. to hang it from).

Selection Process:
This exhibit will be curated by Kimie Joe, Director of Gallery of Hermosa and Misa Hayashi, Owner of Creative Space Hayashi. Submissions will be evaluated on artistic quality and craftsmanship.

Artists will have the opportunity to showcase their work via the Gallery of Hermosa at Creative Space Hayashi in the heart of Chigasaki, Japan. Artists from California, national and international are welcome to apply. Selected works may be listed online on our website as well.

Application Requirements

Artists may submit up to Three (3) images for the non-refundable entry fee of $35. Detail shots count toward the image total.

All accepted artwork will be offered for sale during this exhibition at the Creative Space Hayashi gallery and online. Please include the selling price in your CaFE account portfolio/artwork image details. 

Artists please include an Artist’s Statement and brief description for each artwork. 

Eligibility Criteria

Open to all local, national and international artists. Artist is responsible for delivering or shipping artwork to and from the gallery. Dates will be provided.
