Call Description

We invite artists working in the medium of quilt making to submit work for the inaugural Fine Arts Quilts exhibition celebrating the artistic and expressive potential of quilts. This juried show seeks quilts that demonstrate originality, strong design and the visual impact of fine art–beauty for its own sake.

Whether abstract or representational, minimalist or intricate, entries should showcase quilting as a serious art form. Traditional techniques are welcome if presented in innovative ways. All entries must be original compositions and may include mixed media, surface design, or unconventional materials.

Best of Show may be presented the opportunity to have  a future solo show at the Loewen Studio & Gallery.

The People's Choice award is $500. This will be voted on by in-person gallery visitors. One vote per visitor.

Join us in honoring and promoting the quilt as a canvas for artistic expression.

Applicants may submit up to 3 artworks for consideration. You must submit one full view image and one detail of each work for a possible total of 6 images. Detail images are required.

Loewen Studio and Gallery is a for-profit gallery promoting quilts as art. Pamela Loewen, gallery owner and quilt artist, will be selecting the show. Applicants for this show will be considered for possible future solo shows in the gallery.

All work must be for sale. The gallery will retain a 40% commission on all sales made during the exhibition. An insurance value and a sale price must be included in the application.

Specifically the gallery is looking for artists who have created cohesive bodies of work with unique voices, strong design skills, beautiful color & value usage, and excellent craftsmanship.
