She is the founder and former publisher of Fiber Art Now magazine and has collaborated with Schiffer Craft publishing. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of the Society of Arts + Crafts, and she is currently the editor of Quilting Arts magazine. Throughout her career, Marcia has held numerous leadership roles across the arts, fine craft, and maker communities.
She is the author of Create Naturally, a book that highlights makers whose work is deeply connected to the natural world. When not working, Marcia can often be found at the pottery wheel, sewing quilts in her studio, or spending time with her family. She lives near Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Juror: Mary Edna Fraser is a renowned textile artist who transforms aerial photographs—taken from the open cockpit of her family’s vintage plane—into luminous batiks on silk. Her work captures threatened landscapes and memories through layered wax and dye techniques, resulting in both monumental installations and intimate silk pieces. With a deep passion for the environment and a flair for large-scale, site-specific art, Fraser’s visual storytelling spans subjects from aerial landscapes to deep ocean waterscapes and outer space imagery.
A graduate of East Carolina University with honors in Interior Design and Clothing & Textiles, Fraser furthered her studies through graduate work, apprenticeships, and international training. Her solo exhibit Aerial Inspirations was the first textile exhibition at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. She has presented and taught globally, earning the Verner Award in 2016 and being named a Master Dyer by Silk Painters International in 2021. With over 100 solo exhibitions to her name, she continues to inspire, most recently teaching alongside her daughter, Reba Fraser.
