Call Description

The City of Orlando invites artists to submit qualifications for a public art installation at the Orlando Tennis Centre. The commissioned artwork will celebrate Orlando’s tennis culture and community, reflecting both the sport’s energy and the vibrancy of the surrounding neighborhood. The artwork should serve as a visual landmark for the new Tennis Centre, enhancing the sense of place while complementing the facility’s architecture and purpose.

 

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Art Feature Budget: $78,000.00-$81,000.00

A total of up to $78,000.00-$81,000.00 is allocated to fund this project. The budget includes all costs related to the development of the artwork, materials, fabrication, artist fees, transportation of the artwork, and installation. However, it does not include transportation costs for the artist to attend meetings with City staff, conduct site visits, or travel to and from the site for installation.

Note: A stipend may be provided to shortlisted finalists. Finalists may be asked to submit additional proposals or attend meetings with City of Orlando representatives as part of the selection process.

Design Intent: 1–2 tennis-related sculptures installed at designated locations within the Orlando Tennis Centre property.
Installation Site: Orlando Tennis Centre, 2055 West New Hampshire Street, Orlando, FL
Installation Date: Summer of 2026

Application Requirements

  • Current résumé or CV.
  • One-paragraph biography.
  • Artist statement addressing your vision for the proposed artwork.
  • Projected budget and payment schedule.
  • Maximum of six (6) images of past outdoor artworks (to scale).
  • Detailed description of proposed artwork including materials, dimensions, weight, installation requirements, and estimated value.
  • Proposed project schedule.
  • Required maintenance narrative.

Eligibility Criteria

This opportunity is open to local and national professional artists with experience designing and installing public sculptures. Only artists with a documented history of completing large-scale public art projects on budget and on schedule will be considered.

The artwork must:

  • Be appropriate for the tennis environment and the broader Orlando community.
  • Be made of durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for Orlando’s subtropical climate, including high humidity, sun exposure, heavy rainfall, and hurricane-force winds.
  • Meet all applicable building codes.
  • Be safe for public interaction in a pedestrian-friendly environment.

Finalists will be evaluated on artistic merit, professional qualifications, and demonstrated experience. The review committee may request more detailed proposals from selected artists and may require additional approvals from local government representatives or project partners.
