Call Description
Statement from the Curator
Multi-Faceted is a show designed to uplift and represent artists from marginalized communities in a fantastic marriage of mixed-media. The goal of this exhibition is not only to showcase a diversity of experience but also a diversity of artistic expression/application itself. I hope artists consider the following questions:
Why does your work push against preconceived notions?
Why fight against these binaries that are forced upon you as an artist or as a person?
What stories are dire for you to express?
Your art should talk about personal experiences or identities that you want to express and share with the public. Talk about the beauty of being a person from this community or talk about the nuances of these intersectional identities.
Far too long we as people have been told to compartmentalize ourselves into narrow categories of works and fields. If we ever strayed from the path of typical artistic practice we would be reprimanded. This show is an example of creative ingenuity and freedom. We want the artists to feel free to express themselves authentically and genuinely. Truly shine through your work for this show. Prove to the naysayers that you are truly a diamond, multi-faceted and brilliant.
