Call Description

About the Fellowship

Recognizing the impact that travel can have on an artist’s career, the Dorothy Antoinette LaSelle Foundation has established the Dorothy Antoinette LaSelle Travel Fellowship. In the fall of 2025, two awards of $5,000 each will be distributed to visual artists working and residing in the state of Texas, enabling the recipients to complete a research trip to further their artistic practice.

Dorothy Antoinette “Toni” LaSelle, a pioneer of Modernism in Texas, traveled to Europe in 1927-28, after completing her MA at University of Chicago. She explored the art of England, Italy and France during this trip, which would not have been possible without a “study fund” she was awarded for works included in the First Student Art Exhibition at the Renaissance Society in 1926.

About the Juror

The guest juror this year is Hannah Klemm. Hannah Klemm is the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Blanton Museum of Art, University of Texas at Austin where she has curated exhibitions with Marie Watt and Tavares Strachan and is organizing an upcoming project with Tammy Nguyen. She also co-curated In Creative Harmony: Three Artistic Partnerships, developing the section Lifelong with new work by Nora and Eliza Naranjo Morse.

Previously, she was Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Saint Louis Art Museum, where she oversaw the Currents and New Media Series exhibition programs. She co-curated the traveling exhibition The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century and contributed to an expanded presentation of Action Abstraction Redefined: Native American Modern Art 1940s–1970s. She’s held curatorial fellowships at SFMOMA and the Art Institute of Chicago. Klemm received her MA from the Courtauld Institute of Art and PhD from the University of Chicago.
