Call Description
Studio Montclair seeks entries for Not Just Set in Stone, a sculpture exhibition, at Studio Montclair’s Leach Gallery located in the heart of Montclair from November 14 to December 12, 2025.
Juror: Mary Birmingham, Independent Curator - Mary Birmingham is an independent curator based in Montclair, NJ. She began her career at the Whitney Museum and worked for nine years in the curatorial department at the Montclair Art Museum. She was Director of Exhibitions at the Hunterdon Art Museum from 2007-2010, and Curator at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey from 2010-2022. Birmingham received an MA in Art History from Hunter College, New York. She has organized more than one hundred exhibitions and has written and lectured on a variety of topics in American and contemporary art.
Venue: Studio Montclair’s Leach Gallery, 641 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair, NJ.
Eligibility: Open to all fine artists.
Entry Fee: SMI Members: $37, Non-members: $42 for up to 3 works. $5/each additional work, maximum of 5 works.
Entries:
- Online entry via CaFE only.
- Artists may submit a maximum of 5 works; up to 3 jpeg views of each work will be accepted.
- Sculpture, free-standing and wall-hung, only. NO ceiling hung work.
- Work must have been completed within the past 5 years. Work previously shown in any SMI exhibition will not be accepted.
- For JPEG file format images. Files should be a minimum size of 1600 pixels on the longest side. We will accept lower resolution images, but please note that those images cannot be used for publicity and will display poorly in the exhibit catalog. Digital images should be cropped to show only your artwork. If edges are irregular, it is best to photograph against a solid, contrasting color background.
- Submit work that will be available for the duration of the exhibition.
- No substitutions will be accepted after selections are finalized.
Specifications:
- 3D work: Maximum 4 feet in any direction.
- 3D wall work: Maximum 4 feet in any direction. MAXIMUM 12 inch depth, not to exceed 30 lbs.
- Floor installation: Maximum 36 x 36 x 72 high, not to exceed 100 lbs.
Studio Montclair has a limited number of pedestals. Artists may be asked to supply their own pedestals
Work not conforming to the submission requirements will be rejected.
Cash Awards
Liability: Studio Montclair does not provide insurance for theft, loss or damage of artwork while in transit or while on display at their Galleries. All artists should have their work insured if they feel it necessary. Studio Montclair will make every possible effort to handle all artwork with care and respect.
Sales: A 30% donation will be retained by SMI on all sales. Works available for sale will be sold at the price indicated on the entry form. No changes in price will be permitted upon acceptance. Works not for sale should be listed NFS and include an insurance value
Usage of Images: Studio Montclair reserves the right to photograph and use accepted work for documentation, website, publicity, social media or catalog purposes.

Studio Montclair requires that accepted artists confirm receipt of notifications and instructions via exhibits@studiomontclair.org .

NOTE: You will be making up to 5 applications, submitting 1 work of art per application. [This is for clarity during the jury process as a number of images are allowed for each work of art.] The payment system is adjusted to charge the correct amount -- directions will open when you choose Membership status. Follow them carefully.
