Call Description

Since the opening of Sarratt Student Center in 1974  the Sarratt Gallery at Vanderbilt University has hosted numerous juried and invitational exhibitions from regional and national artists working and exploring with a variety of mediums.  We are pleased to invite all craft based artists, painters, sculptors, photographers, printmakers, artists that work with drawing materials and mixed media, as well as other art medium.  We are not able to accept video/film, sound or large scale installations at this time. The gallery is secured in the evenings and security cameras cover all areas of the space. The gallery is insured in case of any loss or damage to art work while in the exhibition. Artists will pay for the shipping to Sarratt Gallery and the Gallery will pay for return shipping.

Sarratt Gallery is located on the main floor of the Sarratt Student Center and is a large open space with a grid of lights above. There are 3 large walls and a number of pedestals and shelving for 3 dimensional work.

Exhibitions will be scheduled with the gallery director and range from 6 to 12 weeks depending on the type of exhibit and availability of the selected artists. The exhibition calendar for this call will begin April 2026. 

Art in the exhibitions may be for sale. In the event of a sale, Sarratt Gallery will retain a 30% commission. Sarratt Gallery will handle the transaction on behalf of the artist and the University will manage the payment. 

Time Line:

This call closes on 12/15/25.

Jury Process will be conducted from 12/16/25 through 12/23/25.

Artists will be notified of results beginning January 5, 2026.

Scheduling exhibitions will begin 1/12/26.

Artists must be able to ship or deliver their work two weeks prior to scheduled opening date.

Art work is typically returned within two weeks after closing. The Gallery returns art work through FedEx.

Application Requirements

Artists should submit professional images of at least 10 works that best show a cohesive body of work. We are open to new work but it must be along the lines of the work that is presented in this call. Please do not submit detail images or opposite sides of 3D work as this excludes the jury from seeing your body of work. At this time, resumes and artist statements are not required. But artists should submit dimensions and materials used with each work submitted; brief descriptions are also allowed.

Eligibility Criteria

This call is open to any professional artist residing and working in the United States of America. Artists must be at least 18 years of age to exhibit in Sarratt Gallery.

All art work must be able to be shipped by FedEx, UPS or another ground carrier. We do not handle freight shipments, wooden crates or oversized packages. When possible, artists may deliver and pick up their work in person. The Gallery does not pay for in person delivery or pick up.
