7th Stockton Art League Regional Juried Exhibition at the Elsie May Goodwin Gallery

Exhibition Dates: November 8 - December 19, 2025

This is an open regional juried exhibition featuring over $1,000 in cash awards and additional awards of distinction

Eligibility: Open to artists residing in San Joaquin County and its neighboring counties: Sacramento, Amador, Calaveras, Stanislaus, Contra Costa, and Alameda.

About the Exhibition:

The 7th Stockton Art League Juried Exhibition celebrates artistic excellence and community creativity at the Elsie May Goodwin Gallery. This exhibition continues our tradition of providing opportunities for artists across the region and beyond to showcase their work in a professional setting. As a nonprofit 501(c)3, the Stockton Art League is committed to supporting the arts through education, exhibitions, and community engagement.

Exhibition Location: 

The Elsie May Goodwin Gallery, home of the Stockton Art League, is a cornerstone of Stockton’s historic Miracle Mile. With 2,400 square feet of gallery space, it provides a welcoming venue for juried exhibitions, member shows, and community programs. Since opening in 2001, the Goodwin Gallery has showcased the work of hundreds of regional artists and introduced the public to diverse visual art forms. As a nonprofit, artist-led space, it reflects the Stockton Art League’s long legacy (founded in 1936) of fostering creativity, sustaining local artists, and making the visual arts accessible to the wider community.

Gallery Director, LH Horton Jr Gallery (San Joaquin Delta College)

Bio:
Jan Marlese has served as the Gallery Director at LH Horton Jr Gallery since 2002, where she curates and manages exhibitions that highlight regional, national, and international artists. She has over 25 years of experience in arts administration, curatorial practice, and community arts development. Under her leadership, the Horton Gallery has become a hub for innovative contemporary art in San Joaquin County, supporting emerging and established artists alike. Jan’s work emphasizes cultural inclusivity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advancing art as a catalyst for dialogue and education.

Through the leadership of Marlese, the LH Horton Jr Gallery at San Joaquin Delta College has become a vital force in shaping the cultural landscape of San Joaquin County. Under her direction, the gallery presents professionally curated exhibitions, artist talks, and community programs that provide a platform for both regional and national artists, enriching the local arts ecosystem. The Horton Gallery also fosters arts education for students, supports faculty and professional artists, and expands public access to contemporary art experiences. Its impact reaches beyond the college campus, serving as a bridge between academic and community life, and cultivating a thriving creative culture across the county.

Two-Dimensional Works
Accepted media include, but are not limited to: acrylic, oil, watercolor, gouache, painting, drawing, pastels, encaustic, charcoal, pen, printmaking, scratchboard, fiber art, and other non-traditional materials presented in a two-dimensional format.

Three-Dimensional Works
Accepted media include sculpture in traditional materials, ceramics, constructions, assemblages, suspended forms, and soft sculpture.

Photography
Both analog and digital photography are accepted.

Mixed Media
Open-ended; may include any combination of materials and techniques.

Digital & AI-Generated Work Digital art created solely by the artist’s hand and vision (using programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, etc.) is accepted. However, AI-generated artwork will not be accepted. Entries must reflect the artist’s own creative effort in concept, execution, and production.

Not Accepted
Video and installation; Due to limited technical resources, video and installation art cannot be accommodated in this exhibition.

SIZE RESTRICTION FOR ENTERED ARTWORKS: Artwork should be no larger than 40 inches in any direction including the frame. Sculptures are limited to 36 inches wide and 82 inches tall, and should not exceed 100 lbs., including the base.

HAND DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORK: All work must be hand delivered to the Goodwin Gallery. All work must be identical to juried online images. No substitutions permitted.  Please label work with name/title (on rear for paintings and on bottom for sculptures). 2-D works MUST be wired and ready for hanging. 3-D works must be self-supporting.  

LIABILITY: The Stockton Art League and Elsie May Goodwin Gallery will exercise the utmost care in the handling and display of all artworks. However, the Gallery cannot accept responsibility for theft, fire, natural disasters, vandalism, or accidental damage. Insurance is the sole responsibility of the artist. The Gallery will assume responsibility only for damages resulting directly from staff negligence while works are in our possession.

SALES: All sales will be processed through the Stockton Art League. A 30% commission will be retained by the gallery. Artwork may be marked NFS (Not for Sale). No price changes after acceptance.
