Call Description
Our 5th annual Paper+Fiber exhibition is a vibrant exploration of artistic expressions through two mediums rich with history and significance, curated with the art of intentional gift-giving in mind.
Paper and fiber arts, long embraced by women artists, have often been relegated to the realm of “craft,” overshadowed by the fine art world’s more “traditional” mediums. This show represents our commitment to redefining this narrative, championing paper and fiber as profound forms of fine art in their own right.
This year’s exhibition will feature a diverse array of small works that showcase depth and versatility of textile, fiber, and paper. Each piece on display reflects the artists’ mastery and innovation, transforming these materials into concentrated statements of artistic exploration and creativity.
The jury will look at each artist's body of work as a whole, their career, and their history of using the materials centered in this exhibition. The jury will select 1-3 pieces to be featured in the show, which will be eligible for the in-person show, and on our website. 1202 Contemporary welcomes all artists who identify as women artists as long as their medium of choice is paper, fiber or textile, and the medium comprises at least 85% of the work.
Priority for the in-person show will be given to women artists in the Bay Area, but we welcome all artists from across the globe to submit. We will choose 20-25 pieces for the in-person show.
The artwork must be for sale. Commission rates are 20% to the gallery if sold in the gallery, or on our website.
