INTRODUCTION

The City is looking to commission an artist located in the Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach Counties for a work for hire project to design and fabricate that design on a Painted Pompano fish sculpture. The pompano fish is the City’s namesake and a symbol of the identity of Pompano residents. Once completed, the sculpture will be placed at Hillsboro Inlet Park, 2700 N Ocean Blvd, Pompano Beach, FL 33062. The Painted Pompano sculpture will be individualized by the artist. The theme for the design is Pompano Beach’s Shipwreck Park and Wahoo Bay, scuba diving, boating, marine life, and ecosystem awareness. An anti-graffiti and UV Resistant Coating must be applied. All applications must be submitted on the provided template and materials must also be listed.

OVERALL PROJECT

The artist selected for exhibition will be provided with a prefabricated fish. The artist must provide their own workspace to complete the commission. The artists will have one month to complete the sculpture. Selected artist will be paid $1,500 upon completion and approval of their painted fish. Selected Artist is responsible for pickup and delivery of the sculpture.

Artists may submit up to three designs for consideration. All applications must be submitted on the provided template and materials must also be listed.

The Artist will have 30 days to complete the artwork once the Agreement has been fully executed.

THEME

Theme of the artwork is Pompano Beach’s Shipwreck Park and Wahoo Bay, scuba diving, boating, marine life, and ecosystem awareness.

ABOUT ROY L. ROGERS FAMILY PARK

This park sits on the Hillsboro Inlet with views of the bridge, the Hillsboro Lighthouse and all the boats that come and go and the ocean beyond. It was recently renames from Hillsboro Inlet Park to Roy L. Rogers Family Park. It’s a quiet place with people coming and going all the time. The park is frequented by people fishing off the small dock/pier that juts out into the water, bicyclists, and people just looking for a quiet place with extraordinary views. It’s a great place to sit back, relax and watch the beautiful boats that come and go as they wait for the opening of the draw bridge to the Intracoastal Waterway.

The facilities include swings and a playground for kids, restroom facilities, plenty of picnic tables under the palms, park benches, barbeque grills and a gazebo. The Park is also home to the Hillsboro Lighthouse Museum, a Pompano Beach Water Taxi stop, one of the Pompano Fish.

FISH MOLD

The design of the fish is modeled after the City of Pompano Beach logo and is an enlarged and stylized representation of the pompano fish jumping out of the water. The fish is 5’ tall and approximately 3’ wide, proportional oblong shape, sitting on a 5’-6’ diameter integrated base. The fish is constructed out of foam with three coats of polyurethane. The fish will be primed. Primer used: Zinsser bulls eye primer white.

TEMPLATE FOR DESIGN SUBMISSIONS

Design submissions must be submitted on the below template and include design on side A and B. Include list of materials. Link to templates: https://cdn.pompanobeachfl.gov/city/pages/pba/Fish-Templates.pdf
