Call Description

Public Art Project Description

Westview Drive is a beautiful winding roadway traversing east and west along the northern portion of the City of Coral Springs. The project limit spans about 1 mile between Coral Ridge Drive and University Drive. Up to five sculptures will be temporarily displayed on separate concrete pads. A flyer along with social media and press releases will be completed on the artworks and artists selected. Of the artworks on display, the Public Art Committee will select one or more pieces of artwork to purchase for the permanent public art collection.

Existing Artwork

Artists should submit pre-existing artworks for purchase. The City of Coral Springs will only rent and purchase unique works of art (ones in which are not mass produced), but a series of artworks encompassing the same concept may be considered.

Qualities of Artwork

There is no set theme for the 2026 Sculpture on Westview Program. The Public Art Program is looking to feature a variety of artworks reflecting the unique styles and themes of the selected artists.

The artwork must be capable of “holding its own” in the temporary location and the artwork’s final location as identified on the Public Art Master Plan. Artwork must be able to fit on a 4-foot by 5-foot pad.

The artwork should be durable and require minimal ongoing maintenance. South Florida has a subtropical climate and is hot and humid with an intense sun and heavy seasonal rain. Problems with rust and fading should be avoided. Resistance to high-speed winds is important. The artwork must be self-supporting on an open landscape or hardscape. If the artwork is selected for permanent display, final purchase approval is contingent upon inspection for wind load and compliance with the Florida Building Code, ensuring long-term conservation of the artwork.

Artist Requirements Once Selected

  • Transportation and off-truck loading of the artwork to the specific site in Coral Springs;
  • Installation of the artwork;
  • Artist must supply power if required for installation;
  • Recommendations of the design of the permanent site (if selected for purchase);
  • One public lecture in Coral Springs (if selected for purchase)

Artwork Purchase Budget

The public art program will pay $2,000 to each artist selected for temporary display through the program; $1,000 when the artwork is installed and $1,000 when the artwork is removed after the program is complete. The Public Art Committee may select artwork(s) for permanent display. The purchase budget established for the permanent artwork(s) is up to $32,000. The price will include all taxes and fees. Within the fee, the artist will make recommendations to the City regarding the design of the permanent site and present a public lecture regarding public art.
